Policy, Education, and Advocacy Committee Member Application
Policy, Education and Advocacy Committee Information:
Applications are open for our Policy, Education, and Advocacy Committee (PEA), a committee of the Greater Cincinnati Regional Food Policy Council. You do not have to be on the Food Policy Council to apply for the committee! This committee will serve as a crucial bridge between the GCRFPC’s strategic priorities and actionable change in the community. They will conduct local policy research, build and support advocacy campaigns, and help lead community education and engagement efforts.
The Committee focuses on four priority policy areas:
- Farms and Land Use
- Access and Education
- Infrastructure
- Institutions
Background + Expectations
- Self-nominations encouraged
- Committee membership is open to all community members (not just Council seats, although there will be designated leaders from the Council on the committee)
- Committee members will have roles and share work
- Looking for areas of expertise and unique perspectives across our regional food system
Policy, Education, and Advocacy Committee Members agree to:
- Commit 2-4 hours a month for committee work and meetings
- Attend Bi-Monthly Meetings
- Provide meaningful contribution through one of the following avenues (more information below):
- Research and Analysis of Local Policy
- Lead or contribute to an advocacy campaign
- Engagement and Education: contribute to leading a forum, listening session, workshop, or building a toolkit or resource to either gather information or disseminate information
- Commit to continuous communication and stay accountable to asynchronous work outside of meeting times
Key Activities of the Committee
Policy Research and Analysis:
- Develop and refine our Policy Agenda together
- Monitor legislation and regulations at local, state, and federal levels
- Analyze impact of existing and proposed legislation in regard to our Policy Agenda
- Identify gaps in policy that need addressed to support food system equity
Advocacy Campaigns:
- Coordinate advocacy efforts including writing letters, organizing education campaigns, and giving presentations at government proceedings.
- Develop and disseminate policy briefs to inform stakeholders about critical issues
- Partner with community groups and coalitions to amplify advocacy efforts.
Engagement and Education:
- Educate community members, organizations, and local governments about food policy and how they can advocate for change
- Host forums, workshops, and listening sessions to gather input from food systems workers and the public
- Build relationships with decision makers to advance food policy priorities.
Timeline
Applications for the PEA Committee are accepted on a rolling basis.
