OUR WORK
Creating a
Greater Cincinnati Region

As Greater Cincinnati’s Regional Climate Collaborative, Green Umbrella leads a network committed to taking decisive action in the face of climate change. We help our communities become more climate resilient and equitable, and work collectively to decrease our region's emissions.

As the climate changes, our region will become more vulnerable to heat and humidity, flooding, landslides, and more. But collective action has proven results—the time to act is now! Learn more about our region
-
We use “climate action” to mean collaboration, programming, and policy change that works to:
-
Decrease emissions that contribute to climate change, and increase carbon storage in the environment
-
Build resilience to the effects of climate change
-
Increase access to opportunities created through climate action to marginalized communities
-
Protect public health from the impacts of climate change
What is Climate Action?
Collaboration. Programming. Policy Change.
Climate change is a threat multiplier. It intensifies issues our community is already facing such as public health inequities, unequal access to affordable housing, and more, and puts our most vulnerable populations in even greater risk.
The systems-change work Green Umbrella leads is an opportunity multiplier. We believe our region can thrive by accelerating place-based solutions that improve quality of life while reducing pollution and building resilience to the impacts of climate change.
A Regional, Collaborative
Approach

The issues we face affect everyone in our region, and require creativity and focused solutions — that's why working together is essential. Green Umbrella's Regional Climate Collaborative is supporting our region by engaging communities, equipping local leaders, co-designing regional solutions, and mobilizing resources to turn ideas into action, and action into impact.

Engaging
We listen to the voices, expressed needs, and expertise of local community members and institutions, especially those affected most by climate injustices, then work to address these through cross-sector collaboration.
Designing & Planning
Addressing climate change directly improves quality of life and stabilizes the budgets of our communities, but many folks don’t know where to start. We are here to support local communities through every stage of their climate planning efforts.
Equipping
We train decision-makers in the climate planning and implementation process so they are informed and ready to act. We equip them with resources, tools, and experienced partners to get the work done equitably and impactfully.
Mobilizing
We mobilize resources to help turn ideas into action, and action into impact. Our programs and members work together to identify and deliver regional funding, capacity building, and project implementation opportunities across food systems, buildings and energy, greenspace and natural systems, and more!
Prioritizing Collective Impact
Green Umbrella is one of over 30 Regional Climate Collaboratives across the country working with communities to address climate change across jurisdictional borders. Because climate change spans zip codes, cultures, and industries, collective action is key.
Our work is rooted in the Collective Impact approach, which teaches that meaningful systems change is possible when partners come together to design and implement solutions that emerge out of sharing their unique perspectives. Green Umbrella’s Regional Climate Collaborative is made up of members of all kinds - governments, organizations, businesses, schools - who are committed to working together to make our community more resilient, equitable, and thriving. Our collaborative centers equity and inclusion, and is supported by the programmatic work Green Umbrella leads across issue areas like food, greenspace, energy and buildings, and transportation.
