Oxbow Birdathon 2025
May 2 @ 5:00 pm - May 3 @ 5:00 pm
$5
Birdathon begins at 5:00 p.m. sharp on Friday and ends at 5:00 p.m. sharp on Saturday. After 24 hours of birding, the Birdathon Tally and Party begins. Plenty of cold drinks, pizza and other food are provided before the Grand Tally begins and our combined bird sightings are revealed. This year’s Birdathon Tally will be held at the Fernald Preserve Visitors Center. The Fernald Preserve entrance is located at 7400 Willey Road, about half a mile west of State Route 128, in Crosley Township in Northwestern Hamilton County (map and directions). There is ample parking, and it is centrally located to many of the best birding sites (including Fernald itself) on the west side of town.
Oxbow of Indiana wants as many birdwatchers as possible to participate in the Birdathon. While there is a basic competition for the most species seen in the Birdathon area for 24 hours, there are other ways to compete. Here are some possibilities:
If not the entire Birdathon area, then a portion
Most Species seen: in one state, in one county or a river watershed-maybe it is a small area
Most Species in One Location: like the Oxbow, back yard, or a big sit
Maybe the type of team
Most Species seen: by a family, a group under the age of 20, a school class
Maybe a special category you come up with
Most money raised: by a team, an individual, a class
Most birds seen without using fossil fuel, while building a deck, taking the kids for a hike
Most birds photographed
Create your own category. If it has anything to do with counting bird species in the Birdathonโs 24-hour time window we will likely accept it.
The only costย of $5.00 per person registration fee which gets you pizza, snacks, drinks and other goodies at theย Tally party. Register as a team or an individual participant for the Oxbow Birdathon by using the Registration Form on page 11.ย ย Send your completed registration form with payment to Oxbow, Inc., P. O. Box 4172, Lawrenceburg, INย 47025ย as early as possible. (please make checks payable to Oxbow of Indiana, Inc.) Still have questions? Please call Meg at 812-290-2941.
