Free
Meet in the upper Oxbow parking lot at the main entrance to the Oxbow
Leader: Ann Oliver, (513) 307-0929, annieobirder@yahoo.com
Join our field trip leader Ann Oliver for a beautiful fall morning in the Oxbow. Many different species of birds are abundant as they migrate during October. By this date, waterfowl migration will be well underway, and many other species are still on the move. Shorebirds, various water birds, raptors and a diversity of songbirds may be seen. The various habitats of the Oxbow and the lower Great Miami River valley are a great place to see the diversity of these migration patterns.
Ann Oliver, an exceptionally skilled birder who has birded all over North America and the world, is on the board of the local Audubon Society. Ann has birded in the Oxbow area for years and knows the Oxbow area extremely well. Ann plans to lead us to several spots in and around the Oxbow, seeking the โmixed bagโ that fall migration can bring. There will be some walking on this trip, but it will be level and at a birders pace.
The Indiana Land Preservation Alliance (ILPA) in conjunction with the Indiana Audubon Society has again invited Oxbow Inc. to participate in their Indiana October Big Day on this date. Many other Indiana land trusts will be participating in this statewide bird survey. We can help Ann keep track of all the species and numbers of individuals we find on our morning walk and then she will submit the results to ILPA.
Binoculars are necessary to see birds well. Restrooms are available nearby but not in the Oxbow itself. October usually has beautiful weather but check the forecast and always expect mud in the Oxbow. Contact Ann if you have any questions.
