The Cincinnati Black Music Walk of Fame: Enhancing Urban Environments Through Thoughtful Planting Design
April 4 @ 5:30 pm - 7:00 pm
Join us for a presentation about the Cincinnati Black Music Walk of Fame.
On the banks of the historic Ohio River sits a one-of-a-kind, interactive Black music tourist attraction. The Black Music Walk of Fame celebrates the untold stories of Black artists and musicians from Cincinnati, Ohio. This dynamic public park brings together people of all ages and cultures, emphasizing the value of equitable spaces within the community. Ensuring proper details of the landscape on the green roof, discussion of proper planting depth, and meticulous design execution are integral to the success of this project. The presentation will also explain how thoughtful landscape architecture can harmoniously intertwine sustainability with urban, high-end design, showcasing to local architects and design professionals how to successfully achieve similar projects in the region.
The planting design creates a tapestry of colors, textures, and year-round interest that promotes biodiversity and attracts diverse pollinators. A diverse plant palette and intentional, naturalistic design create a captivating landscape that maintains its unique splendor while integrating it into the broader context of Smale Riverfront Park. The park serves as a catalyst for embracing cultural heritage, equitable landscape, fostering social connections, and advocating for environmental stewardship. As Alicia Reece, Hamilton County Commission President and founder of Cincinnati Black Music Walk of Fame, powerfully said, โso many people talk about equity and inclusion, this is equity.โ
Enjoy drinks and appetizers during and after the program. A lucky few attendees will go home with a couple of the interesting perennial plants!
