Summer Nature Walk
July 20, 2024 @ 8:00 am - 12:00 pm

This general nature walk will visit the Oxbow, which Dave, an exceptional naturalist and expert level birder, knows extremely well.
Along with the many breeding songbirds in the Oxbow, we may see Bald Eagles, Double-crested Cormorants and Black-crowned Night-Herons. July is the start of southward shorebird migration in the Oxbow area, so we may see some shorebirds. Heron and Great Egret numbers will begin building and we may see rarer species of long-legged waders like Little Blue Heron or Snowy Egret. A great diversity of plants are found in the Oxbow. Amphibians, such as frogs, are at their peak in mid-summer. We should see many interesting plants, birds, dragonflies, butterflies, turtles and other wildlife. Dave will spend the morning walking around Oxbow and Osprey Lakes, with short drives to change locations. Walking will be at a slow pace over flat terrain with stops to look at birds and plants. Dave may also take us to Lost Bridge to see what we can find along the Great Miami River and nearby ponds.
We suggest long pants and decent footwear. You may also want a hat, water, sunscreen and insect repellent. There are no restrooms in the Oxbow but there are nearby businesses with restroom facilities. If you have any questions feel free to contact Dave.
