Summer Hiking Series: ARI & Oxbow Nature Conservancy

Join us for a monthly hiking series exploring nature, archaeology, and the important stories written in the Oxbow Nature Conservancy.
Hikes will alternate between Oxbow and ARI, with Oxbow-led adventures focusing on nature and conservation, and ARl-led hikes exploring archaeology and the importance of preserving local history. All hikes are FREE and open to the public!
Dates & Time:
All hikes will begin at 4:30pm and last about 90 minutes.
May 20 | Welcome to the Wetlands
Led by Oxbow Inc. Land Steward
General introduction to the Oxbow Nature Conservancy and education on the importance of wetlands.
June 17 | The First Farmers: The Adena Culture
Led by ARI
Learn about early plant use and the transition to farming during the Early Woodland period on a scenic walk along the trail.
July 15 | Osprey Lake Scavenger Hunt
Led by Oxbow Inc.
Family friendly hike through the Osprey Lake Trail (1.3 miles, easy). This day we will have a scavenger hunt for families to participate in as we hike through this trail.
August 19 | Ohio’s Ancient Civilization: The Hopewell Culture
Led by ARI
Discover the remarkable world of the Hopewell people on this guided hike, and learn how they used native plants during the Middle Woodland period.
September 16 | Birding for Beginners
Led by Oxbow Inc. Board Member and Land Steward
This hike will occur during the peak of fall migration and will be a great opportunity for anyone looking to learn more about birding.
October 21 | Abundance in Autumn: The Fort Ancient Culture
Led by ARI
Enjoy a scenic autumn walk while learning how the Fort Ancient people thrived using native plants during the Late Woodland period.
