Pawpaw Processing at Long Branch Farm and Trails

Registration Requirements: Preregistration required.
Intended Audience: This program is designed for adults. Interested youth ages 12 and up may sign up and attend with an adult.
Program Description: Learn to make the most of the pawpaw harvest through first-hand experience as you join us to process our pawpaw crop. Whether you’re growing your own or wild harvesting, this learn-by-doing experience will help you capture Ohio’s own taste of the tropics.
In this class, you’ll:
learn to gauge prime ripeness of pawpaw fruit.
work in a community to gain hands-on experience with processing, handling, and preservation of pawpaw pulp.
explore culinary do’s and don’ts with a focus on approaches that allow pawpaw fruit to shine.
discuss strategies for dealing with animals that also like pawpaw fruit.
clean seeds, with propagation of future pawpaw trees in mind.
head home with 1/2 pound of pawpaw pulp ready for the freezer.
What to Expect: This is a learn-by-doing class with lots of hands-on exposure melded with explanation and Q & A.
Restrooms are available throughout the program.
This program is completely indoors (in an old barn).
Program runs rain or shine.
What to Wear: Wear good shoes for standing and “ok to get dirty” clothes.
