Meet a Greenspace Hiking Series: Highland Cemetery Nature Trails
June 7, 2024 @ 3:00 pm - 4:00 pm
Free
***Day of Update: Hiking Attire + Directions****
Looking forward to seeing you at the Highland Cemetery Nature Trails today!
It should be a sunny and beautiful afternoon! The trails are a little muddy in places, and we will have to occasionally go ” off-roading ” to meander around down trees.
Please wear appropriate attire. I recommend sturdy hiking boots or well-soled shoes in addition to pants.
To reach the trailhead, enter the cemetery from Dixie Highway. Stick to the right side of the road and head towards the tree line at the back of the cemetery. The bulk of the cemetery will be located to your left, with a house and a storage building passing by on your right. As you follow the road, you will drive down a slight hill with a pond to your right at the hills’ base. Continue straight and the trail will be located up ahead on your left — marked by a parking slab and a Little Library.
Please email me (claire@greenumbrella.org) if you have any questions!

Explore protected and unprotected greenspaces in a hiking series by Green Umbrella’s Greenspace Alliance Program. The series will include explorations of greenspace gems in addition to urban strolls. Hikes will last one hour and allow us to join nature enthusiasts, the nature curious, and environmental conservation professionals as we collectively enjoy our time together outdoors.
Our next hike will occur on Friday, June 7th, at 3:00 p.m. at Highland Cemetery Nature Trails, a 150-acre wooded portion of the cemetery that supports a second-growth forest. It boasts 6 miles of trails, with the Black Squirrel Trail passing by a waterfall and the remains of a nineteenth-century springhouse.
The cemetery is located in Fort Mitchell at 2167 Dixie Highway. From the cemetery entrance, take all right-hand turns to reach the trailhead parking area across from the bird feeders. It will be marked by a Little Free Library.
