Make Elderflower Syrup from scratch at Long Branch Farms

June 29 @ 9:30 am - 11:00 pm

$20 – $32
  • « Music Under the Moon
  • RAPTOR Inc. Open House »

Intended Audience: This program is designed for adults.

Program Description: Called “summer in a bottle,” traditional European elderflower syrup dates back to Roman times. We’ll celebrate our own American elder as we hand harvest honey-scented elderflowers and walk you through the entire process of making elderflower syrup. You’ll head home with a pint of aromatic syrup, instructions, and our list of top ideas for using it. While we work, we’ll explore elder’s value for wildlife and how to incorporate this native shrub into your own home landscape.
Elderflower syrup classes are scheduled in the mornings, just after the dew dries. The plants have “recharged’ their blooms overnight, assuring prime flower flavor for us. Note that elderflower syrup classes may be postponed if it rains.

What to Expect: We’ll stay in close proximity to the Creekside barn, venturing into a nearby native edibles plot to harvest elderflowers.

Trails/areas used during this program are rated as accessible (packed gravel trails, mild hills) for a planned distance of 0-.25 mile at a slow pace.
This program is mostly outdoors with indoor options available in the case of severe weather.
Program runs rain or shine.
Restrooms are available throughout the program.
What to Bring: A water bottle is strongly suggested.
