Introduction to Comprehensive Planning for Greenspace
June 25 @ 3:00 pm - 4:30 pm

All Green Umbrella members are invited to participate in an Introduction to Comprehensive Planning for Greenspace training on June 25, 2025 @ 3 PM.
Are you a local government interested in learning about tools you can use in the comprehensive planning process?
Or a business curious about the planning and zoning process?
Or a nonprofit focused on environmental conservation, land management, or environmental justice?
Or a school wanting to advocate for accessible green schoolyards?
Join us for this 101 session to learn the basics of comprehensive planning and how you can use the Greenspace Alliance’s Regional Prioritization Plan (RPP) to communicate environmental conservation and environmental justice priorities with planning commissions.
Comprehensive Plans help communities design a vision for their future, identify and protect existing resources, ensure sustainable and resilient community growth, and involve community member participation.
During this training, you will learn:
- The basics of Comprehensive Plans and their connection to Zoning
- Why communities undergo planning processes
- The steps involved in a comprehensive planning process
- How comprehensive planning relates to greenspace conservation
- The importance of community and organizational involvement in the planning process and how to get involved
- How to utilize the RPP to advocate for environmental conservation and environmental justice
This session will include a dive into the comprehensive planning process, an overview of the RPP and how it can support environmental conservation and environmental justice initiatives, examples of how Greenspace Alliance partners have utilized the RPP, and an RPP-related activity that can help support you and your organization in big-picture planning of projects and assist you in securing funding. OKI Senior Planner, Margaret Minzner, will be a guest presenter.
The training will be led by Claire Carlson, Greenspace Alliance Manager at Green Umbrella. Please email claire@greenumbrella.org with any questions.
*Please note, this is a members-only event. Check the most recent member newsletter or the member portal for your access code. If you are not yet a member, click here to learn more.
