During this educational and informative session, you will learn how to reduce waste at home through composting. Learn practical tips and tricks to turn your kitchen scraps into a nutrient-rich soil amendment for your garden. This hands-on workshop will teach you everything you need to know to start your composting and waste reduction journey. Topics to be covered in this workshop:
Basic compost science, concepts and vocabulary.
Ecological/environment impact*…the “why?”….compost as VALUABLE resource.
Kitchen waste, solutions for kitchen waste, countertop bin, saving for vegetable stock.
Backyard/garden waste, solutions for backyard compost.
Types of bins, tips for success, problems and troubleshooting.
Vermicomposting-Dig into the world of worms.
In-bed composting — mesh waste basket, 4″PVC with holes.
Lasagna mulching & “compost in place” strategies.
Using finished compost in your garden.
Community composting initiatives

This workshop will take place at the Soil & Stars Education Center, 10020 Reading Road, Evendale, Ohio 45241. Non-member ticket includes admission to the farm for the day.
