Energy Updates in Cincinnati: Rising Costs and Taking Steps Towards Efficiency |
Across the city, many are seeing significant increases in their electricity bills. Energy prices are going up primarily due to two interconnected factors: rising capacity costs and wholesale electricity costs. Both of these increases can be attributed to rising inflation, the increasing cost of fuel and maintenance at power plants, and expanding demand from large electricity users, like data centers. The City of Cincinnati’s Office of Environment and Sustainability has created a resource list of the City’s initiatives for resident support, as well as energy-saving tips and the deadlines for tax cuts on energy efficiency upgrades. Visit the resource list here.

Proposed Bikeway to Connect Purple People Bridge and Newport in NKY | |
|
The City of Newport, working in partnership with Tri-State Trails and Compass Infrastructure Group, is proposing a 0.7-mile protected bikeway from Third Street to Eleventh Street, the Saratoga Street Bikeway. This project would establish a central spine for bicycling in Newport, connecting residential neighborhoods and businesses to the Purple People Bridge.
In addition to improving bike access and ease, the project will also improve cyclist, pedestrian, and motorist safety in an area that has experienced tragedy in the past several years. In 2022, Newport resident Gloria San Miguel died after being struck by a car crossing the 11th Street bridge on her bike. |
| |
|
You can add your input to the Saratoga Street Bikeway project design at the survey link here. The survey will remain open through September 2, 2025. |
