Bring-Your-Own-Bucket Compost Sale & Event

In honor of Soil Health Week, join us at Camp Washington Perennial Farm for our “Bring Your Own Bucket” fall compost sale! This 2-hour event offers high-quality compost produced on-site by the Common Orchard Project, perfect for putting your gardens to bed for the winter, along with essential education on the composting process. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own buckets to purchase compost by volume ($8), with bagged compost also available for sale ($10). Learn how to properly prepare your garden for winter using our nutrient-rich compost. Our knowledgeable staff will be on hand to explain composting and answer your fall gardening questions.

 

This Week: Banter + Brews: Decarbonization and Wellness

Banter + Brews is back and better than ever – this time as a breakfast event, co-hosted by MA Design and Green Umbrella’s Greater Cincinnati 2030 District. Start your morning with engaging networking opportunities, a light breakfast with tea & coffee, and thought-provoking presentations from industry leaders at MA Design, CMTA, Great Parks, and Carbon Harvest. Whether you’re in design, engineering, or simply passionate about sustainability in the built environment, this event is your opportunity to connect, learn, and be inspired. Climate Health Webinars: October 30 & November 6

RSVP now for our next Climate Health Equity webinars! The topics are Water Quality (October 30) and Food Access (November 6). Each webinar features an expert in the field and is free and open to the public. This webinar series builds on a report developed in partnership with Scioto Analysis: “Climate Health Equity – Analyzing the Impacts of Climate Change and Health Outcomes in Greater Cincinnati.”

Urban Agriculture Mini Grants Available

The City of Cincinnati is offering mini grants in support of urban agriculture efforts within the City. Nonprofits and businesses within city limits may apply to enhance either their agricultural growing sites or local food aggregation & distribution sites. The deadline to apply is Friday, November 15, 2024. altafiber Achieves LEED Silver certification at Cincinnati Headquarters

Green Umbrella & 2030 District member altafiber received LEED Silver Certification for their headquarters in downtown Cincinnati. LEED (Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design) certification signifies that a building meets a standard of electricity cost savings, lower carbon emissions, and healthier indoor environments. altafiber's goal is to reduce greenhouse gas emissions to net-zero by 2040.

 

Cincinnati Nature Center Begins $3.6M Construction Project

The Cincinnati Nature Center broke ground on a new $3.6M construction project with its first new building in more than 50 years. The project includes developing a Center for Conservation Field Station at the Long Branch Farm and Trails location in Clermont County. The new facility is expected to open fall 2025.

This week: Green Drinks with Last Mile Food Rescue

Join us on Thursday, October 24th from 5:00-7:00 pm for an evening of informal networking at Little Miami Brewing in Milford, OH. Green Drinks is Green Umbrella’s free monthly social event that offers an opportunity to network with sustainability leaders from across Greater Cincinnati. We’re proud to co-host our October Green Drinks with Last Mile Food Rescue and cross-pollinate their network of passionate volunteers with the broader Green Umbrella community.

Garden Manager, Loveland Learning Garden

This position is responsible for creating and maintaining a thriving, productive schoolyard garden to support the education and local food donation needs of the nonprofit’s program.

The ideal candidate will have horticulture skills and the ability to work well with and guide others. This is an independent contract position averaging 40 hours/month annually with weekly hours flexing to changing demands across the growing season. Planning work typically begins February with fall cleanup mid November.
