Call for Participation: 2025 Midwest Regional Sustainability Summit

The Midwest Regional Sustainability Summit is the largest sustainability conference in the Midwest, bringing together hundreds of passionate and visionary leaders to share inspiring, forward-thinking, and solution-oriented ideas that propel us toward a more resilient, sustainable, and equitable future. Our 2025 Summit will be held on Thursday, June 5th at the Sharonville Convention Center and will center themes related to storytelling and collaboration. Applications are now open for speakers and artists, as well as those interested in submitting informational posters or nominating organizations or community members for an award. Rising Pollens and Shifting Seasons: How Climate Change is Affecting Allergies in Greater Cincinnati

Green Umbrella’s Climate Health Equity series is a public service campaign aimed at informing communities of regional climate issues and impacts to our health. In September, we focused on the connection between allergies and climate change and how shifting seasons can make allergies worse, posing serious health complications for communities. Miami University Receives $5M Donation to Help Create New Sustainability Park

A new sustainability park featuring solar panels and walking paths is planned to help Miami University reach its goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2040. The park, funded by three university alumni and long-time sustainability supporters, will “leapfrog” the university to its next big step in resilience. Miami University began its sustainability journey over a decade ago and has since reduced its carbon footprint by more than 50%.

 

Five Startups Selected for Latest Flywheel Sustainable Cincy Cohort

Five startups have been selected for Flywheel’s SustainableCincy accelerator program, an 8-week program for early-stage startups in the environmental sustainability space. Companies accepted to participate receive coaching, connections, and pitch opportunities to advance their innovative solutions. Congratulations to the 2024 cohort: X-inator, Greenway Innovations, Sunflower Fuels, Ecoshell, and ModFab!

 

EPA Launches Nationwide Environmental Justice Climate Corps

A recently announced partnership between the EPA and AmeriCorps will expand pathways into environmental justice careers as part of the American Climate Corps. The partnership will support more than 250 AmeriCorps VISTA members nationwide over three years, with each completing a one-year term of service. Applications for the Environmental Justice Climate Corps will open in early 2025, with service starting later that year. To sign up for updates on the program, visit EPA’s website.

Lecture: Changing How People Think and Act on Climate Change

October 25 @ 5:00 - 6:30 pm

Join Green Umbrella and the University of Cincinnati Center for Public Engagement with Science (PEWS) for a discussion with Dr. Matthew Goldberg from Yale University’s Program on Climate Change Communication. We will explore topics related to climate change communications, success stories, and tools for fostering understanding and motivation to effectively address climate change. All are welcome; registration is encouraged but not required. Learn more here.

Come explore and help restore the secluded Shady Lane Preserve in North Bend, Ohio! Volunteers are needed to cut honeysuckle and pick up litter along the road. Please wear comfy clothes and suitable footwear for the woods and the weather. Learn more and sign up here.
