Climate Research Incubator |
The inaugural year for the Climate Research Incubator has concluded! The Incubator is a cohort providing training to regional researchers related to climate and engagement. The program serves as a platform for fostering collaboration among scholars and researchers, community members, and government representatives across Greater Cincinnati. This year set the stage for several impactful and on-going projects around the topics of food, greenspace, waste, and health outcomes. Teams will continue working with guidance and resources provided by Green Umbrella’s network. We look

forward to seeing the ideas brought to fruition and will begin recruiting scholars for the 2024-25 cohort in late summer. |

New FPC website - on Green Umbrella’s page! |
We recently launched a new webpage for the Greater Cincinnati Regional Food Policy Council (FPC)! Check it out at: greenumbrella.org/fpc/. Fuller integration with Green Umbrella’s communications and identity as the Regional Climate Collaborative was one of the FPC's strategic goals for 2024. This relocation furthers our efforts to make information easier to find, to better serve our members and our communities, and to make our collaborations stronger. As we sunset the standalone FPC website that came online in 2021, we extend so much gratitude to all who contributed

to the extensive and colorful FPC site we’re retiring (especially Susan Jorgensen, Anne Schneider, Claire Greweling, Amanda Lukas, and Michaela Oldfield). Please check out the new page, bookmark it, and let us know if you run into any issues or errors. |

Since 2021, Metro has awarded $294 million from the SORTA transit infrastructure fund to 97 projects across Hamilton County. The fund is available for projects within three-quarters of a mile of a bus route and that make it easier to walk, ride, or drive to a bus stop, or just make it easier and safer to get around. One of the biggest recipients of the transit fund has been the city of Madeira, which recognizes the

potential of Metro’s bus rapid transit project. The latest round of funding, made in February, included $2.6 million to repair streets, sidewalks and curbs in Lincoln Heights; $582,000 to rebuild a street in Mt. Healthy; $200,000 to repair two streets in Reading; and $470,000 to build a sidewalk and move a bus shelter in Woodlawn. Those were some of the 29 projects in 20 municipalities that won a total of $27.8 million in grants in the 2024 round. Learn more.

A local high schooler’s science fair project turned into a nationally recognized innovation. Recent Walnut Hills graduate Angelina DiPaola has been recognized by two national organizations for a smart home compost monitoring device that tracks the moisture levels and temperature of a compost pile. In April she was named one of 25 Prudential Emerging Visionaries and recently, she won the Taco Bell Foundation Ambition Accelerator prize. Locally, the Civic Garden Center and Gorman Heritage Farm use her technology.
