Federal Impacts on Green Umbrella’s Work: A Message from the Executive Director |
A lot of you have been asking us if federal cuts are affecting our work, and how you can help if it is.
Yes. Our work has been and continues to be impacted, and the ways are changing by the day. And yes, we need your help. The federal cuts and regulatory rollbacks we are witnessing - the reversal of generations of work - will lead to contamination of our air, water, and land, increased costs for regional communities, and negative impacts on the health and safety of local families.
A resilient, equitable and thriving Greater Cincinnati is more dependent on local organizations and actions than ever. Green Umbrella needs your help to be able to sustain momentum on local climate action. 40% of our 2025 expense budget is impacted by the federal cuts. Your financial support will help Green Umbrella continue engaging communities, equipping them for action, planning impactful strategies, and mobilizing resources to local communities.

With gratitude, Ryan Mooney-Bullock Green Umbrella Executive Director |

The Common Orchard Project is selling bulk and bagged compost from Camp Washington Urban Farm, where healthy compost piles made from local food scraps have been “cooking” for months.
The compost is available in 5-gallon bags and in bulk (at least 1 cubic yard) for pick up at Camp Washington Urban Farm. Compost orders and pickup times need to be reserved in advance. |
Common Orchard Project’s composting brings new life to waste, transforming food scraps that would typically end up in landfills into premium, screened compost that is perfect for adding to raised beds, house plants, and your own potting soil blends. |

Prescribed Burns at MetroParks |
You may have seen smoke around MetroParks of Butler County in the past couple of weeks - don’t worry, it’s on purpose!
Prescribed fires are planned burns to help land minimize spread of disease and pests, recycle nutrients back into the soil, and clear brush and other natural materials that can build bigger, more dangerous fires in the future.
MetroParks initiates prescribed burns at designated parks in the late winter and early spring. The burns are monitored by experienced professionals at every step to maintain control over the fire’s spread. |
