Rally for Red Bike: Cincinnati Bikeshare Shutting Down Indefinitely

After taking a two-month pause in January, Red Bike will shut down indefinitely because of a lack of sustainable funding. "We wouldn't be anywhere near as successful if we had not had [UC Health’s] support," Executive Director Doug McClintock told WVXU. "They were unable to renew their support this year, and our efforts to try to find someone else in the corporate giving world to step into that space have, unfortunately, been unsuccessful."

The Cincinnati Business Courier reports City Council Member Mark Jeffreys will reach out to potential stakeholders so the service may continue in a more sustainably funded way. "We need to pull together all the right people to maintain Red Bike in Cincinnati," he told the outlet. "It cannot go away."

Tri-State Trails will host a bike ride, Rally for Red Bike, this coming Saturday, March 16 at 12pm at the Sawyer Point Red Bike Station to show their support for the organization.

By participating in Bloomberg American Sustainable Cities, Cincinnati will receive a Bloomberg Philanthropies-funded innovation team (i-team) and in-depth, customized policy and technical assistance in collaboration with community-based organizations to mobilize public, private, and philanthropic investments.
