This week has been a difficult one for those in climate work across the country. As the new administration pulls the United States out of the Paris Agreement once more, expands fossil fuel production, and promises to end regulations designed to protect the environment, making any climate progress can feel like an impossible hill to climb.
At times like these, it is important to remember that you are not alone. At Green Umbrella, our work is rooted in the Collective Impact approach, creating meaningful systems change through partnership. We’re one of one of over 30 Regional Climate Collaboratives across the country working with communities to address climate change across jurisdictional borders.
By reading and subscribing to Green News, you are already part of a network that is making meaningful change in our region. This edition of Green News is dedicated to sharing more ways you can deepen your ties to climate action in the Greater Cincinnati region, whether that be attending an event, volunteering or exploring a green career path, sharing your opinion, or donating. Whatever your bandwidth or interest, there’s a place for you in the climate action movement.
We’re climbing that hill together. The Green Umbrella Team |

Bat condominiums, a sound garden, hiking trails, and 40 acres of prairie - all this and more are planned for a large area outside downtown Loveland. Cardinal Land Conservancy is working to restore this previously-vacant historic landscape in Clermont County. “It’s like a microcosm of all the different types of habitat you can find in our region on one property,” land manager Owen Hunter-Linville says in this interview with WCPO.

After centuries of pollution, American Rivers listed the Mill Creek as “the most endangered urban river in North America” in 1997. Now, after decades of concentrated clean-up effort, fish, crawdads, turtles, and more populate the creek. But low head dams have obstructed the creek and prevented fish from migrating upstream. This year, nonprofit Mill Creek Alliance will be building new riffles to raise water levels above the low head dams, allowing fish to migrate once again.
