DESCRIPTION:The Greater Cincinnati Earth Coalition\, in partnership with Duke Energy\, is proud to announce the launch of the Environmental Career Path Program at the Greater Cincinnati Earth Day Festival on April 26\, 2025\, at Summit Park in Blue Ash. This initiative aims to inspire and empower students to explore rewarding careers in environmental fields\, trades\, and professions\, addressing the growing demand for skilled professionals in the Green Jobs sector. \nCo-hosted by the Greater Cincinnati Environmental Educators\, ORSANCO and their Foundation for Ohio River Education (F.O.R.E.)\, Green Umbrella\, and the City of Cincinnati Office of Environment and Sustainability\, the event will feature interactive booths\, exhibits\, and career education opportunities. Students and their families are invited to learn about career paths that make a positive impact on the planet while providing long-term career stability and growth. \n“This program represents a unique opportunity for students\, educators\, and employers to come together and shape the future of sustainability in Greater Cincinnati\,” said Chuck Lohre\, Chair of the Greater Cincinnati Earth Coalition. “We are thrilled to partner with Duke Energy and our co-hosts to provide students with valuable insights into the expanding world of Green Jobs.”\nEvent Highlights: \nThe Environmental “Passport” Program: Students can pick up an Environmental Career Passport at the festival entrance. It’s a community event for not-for-profit organizations\, businesses\, government agencies\, and individuals from the Ohio-Kentucky-Indiana Tri-State region who work cooperatively and actively to promote the beauty and environmental quality of the Tri-State area. \nOver 125 exhibitors\, local music\, local vegetarian foods\, and Madtree Brewing Company’s craft beer make the festival one of the best environmental education events in the region. Typically\, attendance is over 8000. Activities and presentations about environmental education will be featured at the event. Families from all over the region are encouraged to get out and enjoy Earth Day even if it’s only at their local park\, traditionally the first fun family outdoor event of the year! \nBring your reusable water bottles\, we have filling stations on site! This is a fun and educational way to engage young designers in celebrating our planet. \nPrizes: $100 each for Grade School\, High School\, College and Other \n \nRules and Objectives: \nCreate a wearable fashion statement using only items purchased from thrift stores\, reflecting the 2025 theme\, “Our Power\, Our Planet.” \nDesign a large poster (suitable for stage visibility) displaying a sketch of your outfit and a list of the thrifted items used. \nContestants will: \n\nModel their thrifted outfit on stage.\nExplain to the judges how their fashion statement embodies the yearly theme.\nInvite family and friends to Summit Park to witness your sustainable style!\nA teacher or authorized adult must accompany students to the stage area.\n\nJudging Criteria: \n\nAll items used in the outfit must be sourced from thrift stores.\nThe concept and design must be original student creations and effectively communicate the yearly theme.\nOutfits can incorporate a variety of thrifted materials\, including clothing\, accessories\, and other repurposed items.\nNO glass or items that can splinter or shatter are permitted.\nJudges will consider the diversity and creativity of the thrifted items used.\nYou may use tape\, glue\, paste\, thread\, etc.\, as needed to construct your outfit.\nModels should not be on stilts or raised platforms\, and outfits should not contain mechanized elements\, for safety reasons.\n\nFill Out The Registration Form NOW \nOnce registered\, you will receive more details about the show\, including directions and the contestant staging area at Summit Park. SUMMARY:Habitat Restoration Community Volunteer Day
DESCRIPTION:Join us as we remove harmful invasive species in Summit Park! Volunteers will hand saw/trim plants and trees and help drag them to the chipper area. Invasive species\, such as honeysuckle and callery pear\, are quickly taking over in our watershed. If not controlled\, these invasive plants will cause environmental and economic harm to an ecosystem. Invasive species spread rapidly and quickly shade-out the healthy variety of wildflowers\, grasses\, and trees. Eventually\, an ecosystem is dominated with invasive species. Left with nowhere to live\, the bees\, butterflies\, birds\, and other critters move away. By removing these invasive species\, the Summit Park ecosystem will begin to function as it once did\, naturally.
