Great Outdoor Weekend Returns to the Tri-State September 23 & 24!

The 2017 Great Outdoor Weekend is right around the corner. On September 23 & 24, Green Umbrella members will host over 100 FREE, outdoor events in 40 locations throughout the Tri-State. This year’s event includes new and unique partnerships to bring diverse programs to transit-accessible locations, activating greenspace withinCincinnati Wildflower Preservation Society the urban core. Meet the Candidates Ride

This Sunday, September 17, join Tri-State Trails, Queen City Bike and UC Sustainability for a ride along the Canal Bikeway with Cincinnati mayoral and city council candidates. The ride starts promptly at 1:00 pm at the Sawyer Point Red Bike station (705 E. Pete Rose Way) and ends at Washington Park. Learn more here.

Contribute Your Ideas to the Green Cincinnati Plan

The Green Cincinnati Plan has helped establish Cincinnati as a national leader in sustainability and an attractive destination for businesses and individuals. It presents a comprehensive set of recommendations for addressing global climate change as a city and region. Green Umbrella is helping the City of Cincinnati begin a major update of the Green Cincinnati Plan, to advance the sustainability, equity, and resilience of our city for the next five years. Greater Cincinnatians are invited to work across sectors and neighborhoods to collaboratively design the next set of sustainable goals and strategies for the future of the City and region. CONFERENCE & WEBINAR: Ohio State Food Waste Collaborative Conference. This year’s program is focused on policy initiatives aimed at reducing and redirecting consumer food waste. The conference is September 15 and can be attended in person or via live stream. Due to popular demand, the Reducing Lunch Room Waste: New Guidance for School Share Tables and other Strategies afternoon session will be included in the live stream registration. WORKSHOP: Introduction to Proposal Writing. This workshop offers tips and techniques in successful grant proposal writing for nonprofit organizations, including what goes into a successful proposal, how the material is organized, how proposal budgets are prepared, and how to present proposals to grant makers in ways designed to promote a positive response. Hosted by The Public Library of Cincinnati and Hamilton County on Friday, September 15 from 10:00 am - 12:00 pm, no reservation required. For more information, click here.

CONFERENCE: Ohio EPA Sustainability Conference. Ohio EPA will host its first sustainability conference on Tuesday, October 3. This conference is targeted to businesses and communities that are moving beyond basic environmental requirements into cost-effective sustainable strategies to improve environmental performance and save valuable resources.Please note this conference is for officials and organization representatives from Ohio. Click here for more information.

BUSINESS ACCELERATOR PROGRAM: The Pipeline H2O accelerator program is looking for qualified water-tech startups to participate in its 2018 Class beginning in February 2018. Applications are open for the first water commercialization platform for water technologies. The program includes access to customers, connections and capital. Our program leverages the water rich resources out of the Cincinnati region, including the United States Environmental Protection Agency, Cincinnati Water Works, the University of Cincinnati's Water Center, Xavier University's Center for Innovation, Confluence, the City of Cincinnati, the City of Hamilton, Cintrifuse and The Hamilton Mill. WEBINAR: Ohio Materials Marketplace. Ohio EPA recently launched a new free tool to help Ohio businesses, not-for-profits, and government organizations advertise and acquire materials that might otherwise be destined for disposal in landfills. The Ohio Materials Marketplace (OMM), is a significant step to shift Ohio from a “take, use and dispose” model to one emphasizing recycling, remanufacturing, reuse and maintenance. Since launching in April, 240 organizations have joined OMM, listing 53 available materials and 22 wanted materials.You can learn more about Ohio’s emerging circular economy by watching the webinar or visiting the website.
