Local Food Highlighted in GU Members' Events

During this bountiful time in the growing season, many member groups are hosting events which celebrate and promote local food that is healthy and sustainable. Click on the events below for more information:

Volunteers Wanted: Help Tri-State Trails Tell the Story of Trail Use

Tri-State Trails and Interact for Health are seeking volunteers to help collect trail user intercept surveys in August through October. Help us gather qualitative data to tell the story of trail use in Greater Cincinnati. All volunteers will receive a Tri-State Trails Nalgene water bottle, a bike tire patch kit, and our eternal gratitude. Click here to sign up for one or more 3-hour survey windows on a trail near you!

Xavier Offers New Course Sequence in Sustainability Program Development

Green Umbrella and Xavier Leadership Center have partnered to offer the Sustainable Climate Change Leadership Certificate. This certificate series is led by an industry expert and designed to incorporate practical and interactive learning, focusing on key disciplines of sustainability. Professional Development
GRANT OPPORTUNITY: 2017 Keen Effect Grant. Keen is committed to creating strong communities and protecting the places we love to play. The KEEN Effect program awards grants up to $10,000 to grassroots organizations across the world working to grow the next generation of environmental stewards. The deadline for proposals is September 30, 2017. Click here for more information.

TRAINING: National Green Infrastructure Certification Program (NGICP). 
Training will be provided at the Civic Garden Center and modules are scheduled for Monday and Friday mornings from 8:00 am - 12:00 pm, starting on September 8 and ending on October 13. Each module will be facilitated by local GI professionals. This intense 35-hour course will cover background information in stormwater management and green infrastructure, materials used in GI practices and systems, safety and site management. CONFERENCE: Student Sustainability Leaders Conference. Sponsored by the Hanley Sustainability Institute, Student Sustainability Leaders: Networking Our Future is a student-run, student-centric conference celebrating undergraduate and graduate contributions to the interdisciplinary field of sustainability. It will be held on Saturday, September 23,  at the University of Dayton River Campus. Click here for more information.

SEMINAR: Herbal Plant Identification. The Nature Academy in Corinth, KY, has developed a 2.5 hour seminar to assist people in identifying over 20 different local herbal plants. This course is available to garden clubs, church groups, seniors, families, students and teacher professional development. Seminars are held at the Nature Academy's 92-acres campus and times and dates vary depending on group needs. For more information, click here.
