Sustainability Spotlight

Celebrate Earth Month with Green Umbrella!

April is Earth Month! Check out our Earth Month events page for all of the Earth Day activities taking place around the region. You can also celebrate by joining Green Umbrella's Earth Day Instagram Challenge! One lucky winner will be selected to win a limited edition green umbrella. If you need inspiration for your photos, get outside and visit one of our Greenspace Gems!

Year of Living Sustainably: Floods - Resilience

April showers bring May flowers, but climate change means that floods are intensifying. Help promote resiliency in your community by planting a rain garden or cleaning up litter to keep drains clear. You can learn more about flood preparation at one of this month's Year of Living Sustainably events! Commit to making an even greater impact by registering for the Drawdown EcoChallenge running April 3rd - April 24th. You can join a team, create your own, or play as an individual. The Cincinnati-based team with the most points at the end of the month will be recognized by Cincinnati's Office of Environment and Sustainability!

Join Us for Green Drinks on April 11th!

Celebrate Earth Month with the Greater Cincinnati Regional Food Policy Council (GCRFP) at Green Drinks! Join us at Fibonacci Brewing from 5:30 - 7:00 pm on April 11th to network with others interested in sustainability and hear what the GCRFP has been up to! Action Teams

Action Teams bring together people and organizations who share common goals around environmental issue areas. Teams implement strategies to drive progress on our 2020 GoalsGreen Umbrella also has three Initiatives: Tri-State Trails, the Greater Cincinnati Regional Food Policy Council, and the Cincinnati 2030 District.

Action Team Spotlight: Great Miami River Conservation Fund

The Miami Conservancy District, United States Fish & Wildlife Service’s Partners for Wildlife program and Ohio River Foundation are partnering on a conservation fund specifically dedicated to restoration projects for an Ohio River sub-watershed in Ohio. Together, they will provide approximately $250,000 in seed money for the first five years. Projects will include removing invasive plant species from the Great Miami River corridor and its tributaries as well as planting native trees along river banks.
