Cincinnati's High Performance Homes

Did you know that Cincinnati has the most green apartments in Ohio? Green homes are also on the rise and now home buyers can find them easier. The Multiple Listing Service of Cincinnati recently added 88 new green home fields that help home buyers search these features and enable realtors to highlight the value they add to a home. May is Bike Month!

Kickoff Bike Month with Queen City Bike, Tri-State Trails and the Greater Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky bicycle community at the Bike Month Kickoff Party. Ride down to Rhinegeist on April 30 from 5:30pm - 8:00pm and enjoy free pizza, delicious beer and bicycle camaraderie!

Host registration is open for the 16th annual Great Outdoor Weekend! Taking place September 28-29, GOW regularly sees over 10,000 participants and offers nearly 100 free, family friendly events across the tri-state area. Action Teams bring together people and organizations who share common goals around environmental issue areas. Teams implement strategies to drive progress on our 2020 GoalsGreen Umbrella also has three Initiatives: Tri-State Trails, the Greater Cincinnati Regional Food Policy Council, and the Cincinnati 2030 District.

Greenspace Gem: Dinsmore Woods Nature Preserve

Formed in 1985, Dinsmore Woods features a 1.7-mile walking trail, an old-growth forest, and a population of the endangered native species, running buffalo clover. Protected by Boone County Parksthis 107-acre forest is adjacent to the historic Dinsmore Homestead.

Professional Opportunities 

Ohio River Foundation will host a Student Conservation Course for high school students from June 17 - June 21. Students will engage in restoration activities, leadership development, stewardship and conservation. Applications are due by April 30. 

The Lawrence Foundation is accepting grant applications until April 30 for projects that address the environment, human services, disaster relief, and more.

Initial applications for the J.M. Kaplan Fund's Innovation Prize are due April 30. Priority areas include natural resource preservation, environmental climate change mitigation, heritage conservation and social justice reform.

The High Performance Buildings Seminar is accepting proposals for the 8th annual conference held on October 3. Proposals should illustrate how businesses can solve sustainability challenges while benefiting their bottom line. Deadline is May 10.

The OKI Regional Conservation Council annual meeting is April 23. This year's program will feature presentations on rain gardens, urban forestry, Green Umbrella's food atlas project and more. RSVP by this Friday, April 19!
