Network at Green Drinks & Get Ready for Great Outdoor Weekend

Join us on Thursday, September 23 for our next Green Drinks, featuring two outdoor activities to choose from and a Green Umbrella collaboration beer release by HighGrain Brewing!

At 5:00 pm, either (1) join leaders from the Village of Silverton, IBEW Local 212 and Paff Electric on a walking tour highlighting Silverton's energy efficiency and renewable energy successes; or (2) join Hamilton County Soil & Water Conservation District staff on a walking tour along Cooper Creek at Bechtold Park to learn about the Cooper Creek Collaborative watershed restoration project. More details here.

Then at 6:00 pm, we'll all convene for drinks and networking at HighGrain, who will be releasing an urban peach sour ale brewed with 300 lbs of peaches gathered at Permaganic EcoGarden in Over-the-Rhine! The event is a pre-celebration for this year's Great Outdoor weekend, which features over 100 free, family-friendly outdoor activities on September 25 and 26.

2030 District Releases Occupant Health Guide for Healthier Buildings

Last week, the Cincinnati 2030 District launched an innovative Healthy Building model and Occupant Health Guide. Focusing on our region's health needs, the guide is designed to help building owners promote healthy behaviors and enhance building performance to address chronic disease. At the launch event, experts from the International WELL Building Institute and The Health Collaborative shared some of the key features and research backing the recommended building optimizations. The guide and a recording of the event are available here.

Training Will Help Teachers Bring Farm to School Education to Schools

Teachers are invited to join Growing Our Teachers, a cohort-based training on integrating Farm to School education in their schools. Participants will support each other and other educators to enhance agriculture and nutrition education across the region. The program will be co-facilitated by Ellie Falk (Civic Garden Center) and Nicole Gunderman (Gorman Heritage Farm), and is funded through a USDA Farm to School Implementation Grant received by Green Umbrella's Greater Cincinnati Regional Food Policy Council.

Beginning in October, ten sessions throughout the school year will cover topics including garden planning, curriculum connections, nutrition education, school garden tours, creating inclusive and equitable garden programs, and best management practices for school garden and outdoor learning. Participants will also receive $250 toward their school garden program, peer support and access to regional experts and organizations. Apply by 9/7.
