Sustainability Spotlights

Food Policy Council Launches Program to Enhance School Gardens

We're excited to be launching a new Enhancing School Gardens (ESG) project meant to connect educators and develop shared measures of the impacts of Farm to School (F2S) programming. Earlier this summer, educators came together and agreed upon shared objectives to evaluate this first pilot year: social-emotional wellness, career readiness, and agri-food literacy.

All F2S and garden educators are invited to join for the ESG kickoff and to share this opportunity with colleagues. Register for an upcoming onboarding session, or to receive the recording.

Using Food Systems as a Tool for Community & Economic Development

Green Umbrella is partnering with the Center for Local Government and the Greater Cincinnati Regional Food Policy Council to host Food Systems as a Community Development Tool on August 27 from 9:30-11:30 am.

This event is for local government staff and will focus on how communities can attract and foster food business opportunities. Whether you're a planner, city manager or economic development staffer, come learn how you can support more innovative and equitable community food systems. Resources related to food systems, land use, procurement, and
available funding and financing will be provided.

This will be a hybrid event, enabling you to join in-person at La Terza Artisan Coffee Roasterie or virtually. Registration required.

Explore Public Alleys & Stairways at Our Next Green Drinks & Urban Hike

Join us on Thursday, August 26, for our next Green Drinks and Urban HikeThis month, we’re partnering with Spring in Our Steps to learn about their decade-long commitment to improving walkable public corridors across the city. We’ll explore improved public alley and hillside stairways in Mount Auburn, Over-the-Rhine and Clifton Heights.

We will depart from Northern Row Brewery at 5:00 pm for the hike and will make it back by 6 pm for drinks and networking. There is an outdoor space at the brewery, but we ask that you please bring a mask to wear indoors.

'Canoes & Conversations' Celebrates Lower Mill Creek Progress & Vision

Last month, city, county and state elected officials joined trail and waterway advocates to celebrate the progress and amenities of the Lower Mill Creek watershed. Attendees had the option to walk, bike or canoe along the Mill Creek before convening for a conversation about our shared vision for the future.

Tri-State Trails led a bike ride on the Mill Creek Greenway from Salway Park to South Cumminsville. As work on the CROWN trail loop progresses, the Mill Creek Greenway extension south to the Lick Run Greenway and Ohio River Trail West is a key priority.
