Sustainability Spotlights

New Climate Advisory Group Comes to Avondale

Groundwork Ohio River Valley and Green Umbrella are actively currently seeking 10 local residents from the neighborhood of Avondale to form the Avondale Climate Advisory Group. A Climate Advisory Group is a PAID group that will create a neighborhood climate action plan for Avondale addressing issues like flooding, heat, and air pollution; understand how the neighborhood’s history resulted in increased climate vulnerability; and influence the City of Cincinnati’s processes to better support neighborhood plans.

Questions or interest can be emailed to info@groundworkorv.org and called to 513-301-0310. Local residents are also encouraged to fill out the interest form link here.

Deepening the Roots of School Gardens

The Greater Cincinnati Regional Food Policy Council supported Growing Our Teachers through a USDA-FNS Farm to School Implementation grant. Offered through the Civic Garden Center, Growing Our Teachers is an opportunity for educators to elevate their school gardens and farm-to-school education programs. For a closer look at how this program is impacting local schools, check out the blog post here about the gardens at North College Hill Schools' Trojan Way Learning Center.

August Green Drinks at Fibonacci Brewing

Join sustainability leaders from across the region for Green Umbrella's August Green Drinks happy hour at Fibonacci Brewing on Thursday, August 10th. Fibonacci Brewing is a nanobrewery and urban farm in Mt. Healthy, OH, that partners with local farms to source local ingredients in their beers. Fibonacci hosts a farmers market on Sundays, so it's the perfect place to celebrate National Farmers Market Week with us. We'll be capturing stories from attendees about your favorite farmers markets, what you love about them, your favorite fruits and veggies, and why our regional system is important to you.

In Search of Transportation Solutions

The Equity-Focused Community Collaboration (EFCC) Project aims to deliver clean, equitable transportation solutions to Ohio communities. In Cincinnati, the project is focusing on Lower Price Hill, where a listening session was held in April to get resident input on transportation-related barriers, priorities, and solutions they would like to see in their community. The project is also working with community partners, including Groundwork Ohio River Valley, to identify priorities and discuss solutions. You can add your voice to the project by sharing your feedback with Drive Electric Ohio Director Jacob Schwemlein.
