SUMMARY:City of Cincinnati Multi-Family Recycling Program
DESCRIPTION:Sierra Club Educational Forum \nWhen: Monday Dec 7\, meet and greet 6:30 PM\, discussion 7-9 PM\nWhere: Mt. Auburn Presbyterian Church\, Geier Room\, 103 William Howard Taft Road\, Cincinnati. Parking available behind church. \nPresented by Bob Gedert\, past president of the National Recycling Coalition and Sue Magness\, Recycling Coordinator for the City of Cincinnati’s Office of Environment and Sustainability \nThe City has Ohio’s oldest curbside recycling program\, established in 1989. Since single-family homes generally have few barriers to recycling\, the City has traditionally focused much of its efforts there. However\, over 50% of the City’s residents live in multi-family buildings. These individuals do not have the same easy access to recycling as those living in single-family homes. Instead\, they need to own a car and transport recyclables to a drop-off location. The effort\, time\, and resources required create a significant barrier for most people living in multi-family buildings. \nThe City hopes to increase access for City residents who reside in multi-family buildings by implementing the Multi-family Pilot Program. From lessons learned in the pilot\, the City will discuss city-wide apartment and condo recycling access policies with City Council in spring 2027. \nYou’re welcome to attend in person\, or join us via Zoom here.
