SUMMARY:Introduction to the Regional Prioritization Plan (101)
DESCRIPTION:Join the Green Umbrella’s Greenspace Alliance on Wednesday\, September 10th from 1-2pm for a virtual training to learn about their Regional Prioritization Plan (RPP). \nThe RPP is a map informed by Greenspace Alliance partners and created by Senior Planner\, Margaret Minzner from OKI. It outlines the conservation and restoration concerns throughout the region. Conservation priorities include areas that are near already protected greenspace or could benefit from further protection. Restoration priorities include areas that could provide significant health and community benefits if protected. \nThe Greenspace Alliance is actively working with organizations and communities throughout the region to integrate the RPP into their long-term planning efforts. Regardless of whether they are simply identifying parcels of land to protect or are undertaking a comprehensive planning process\, the RPP can serve as a guide for conservation implementation regionally. \nIf you’re curious to learn more about how the RPP\, how it works\, and how it can support the work you are doing or seek to do\, join us for a short training session on its creation and use! \nA 25 Communities Project member event! \n____________________ \nFor more information and/or questions\, contact Greenspace Alliance Manager\, Claire Carlson\, at claire@greenumbrella.org.

SUMMARY:Comprehensive Planning 101
DESCRIPTION:Have you ever wondered how parcels of land become classified as commercial\, industrial\, residential\, or greenspace? Have you witnessed a property being developed or an unused area being transformed into a park and wondered why? \nAll of these land transformations are a part of a process called comprehensive planning\, a process which Dearborn County\, Indiana\, is actively going through! \nJoin Green Umbrella’s Greenspace Alliance on Wednesday\, July 2nd from 4:00 – 5:30 pm in the Depot Room at the Lawrenceburg Public Library to learn about what a comprehensive planning process is\, how it contributes to greenspace conservation\, and the work the Alliance is doing to expand awareness about it! \nThis training session will enable you to explore the world of comprehensive planning and equip you with a baseline understanding of the process. \nHear from the Dearborn County Plan Commission about their upcoming public meeting to update the comprehensive plan. Additionally\, learn how the Dearborn County Soil and Water Conservation District incorporates comprehensive planning into their conservation efforts.

SUMMARY:Meet a Greenspace Hiking Series: Highland Cemetery Nature Trails
DESCRIPTION:***Day of Update: Hiking Attire + Directions**** \nLooking forward to seeing you at the Highland Cemetery Nature Trails today! \nIt should be a sunny and beautiful afternoon! The trails are a little muddy in places\, and we will have to occasionally go ” off-roading ” to meander around down trees. \nPlease wear appropriate attire.  I recommend sturdy hiking boots or well-soled shoes in addition to pants. \nTo reach the trailhead\, enter the cemetery from Dixie Highway.  Stick to the right side of the road and head towards the tree line at the back of the cemetery.  The bulk of the cemetery will be located to your left\, with a house and a storage building passing by on your right.  As you follow the road\, you will drive down a slight hill with a pond to your right at the hills’ base.  Continue straight and the trail will be located up ahead on your left — marked by a parking slab and a Little Library. \nPlease email me (claire@greenumbrella.org) if you have any questions! \n______________________________ \nExplore protected and unprotected greenspaces in a hiking series by Green Umbrella’s Greenspace Alliance Program. It boasts 6 miles of trails\, with the Black Squirrel Trail passing by a waterfall and the remains of a nineteenth-century springhouse. \nThe cemetery is located in Fort Mitchell at 2167 Dixie Highway. From the cemetery entrance\, take all right-hand turns to reach the trailhead parking area across from the bird feeders.  It will be marked by a Little Free Library. \nIf you have questions or need assistance on the day of the event\, contact Greenspace Alliance Manager Claire Carlson at claire@greenumbrella.org.
