The Metropolitan Sewer District of Greater Cincinnati (MSD) is seeking a highly motivated Air Quality Engineer to join the Environmental Team within the Compliance Services (CS) Division. The successful candidate will work on a variety of projects to support MSD’s wastewater Treatment (WWC), Engineering (WWE), and Collection (WWC) divisions while ensuring compliance with environmental regulations. This position is an excellent opportunity to work on a diverse range of environmental challenges within the wastewater industry, where it is all about clean water!
Primary responsibilities of this position include:
· Conducting air quality analyses, assessing regulatory compliance, and performing regulatory applicability evaluations;
· Developing complete and accurate permit applications including Permit-to-Install (PTI) and Permit to Operate (PTIO/Title V) applications;
· Preparing emission calculations and maintaining emission inventories for MSD’s facilities;
· Reviewing CMS/CEMS data and preparing routine compliance reports;
· Ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal air quality requirements;
· Assisting with the preparation and execution of SSI performance testing;
· Staying up to date on emerging environmental trends, regulations, technologies, and best management practices;
· Researching and implementing sustainable practices and technologies to reduce the environmental footprint of wastewater treatment and related engineering projects;
· Developing waste treatment plans for efficient disposal of wastewater treatment byproducts;
· Maintaining records of communications with regulators;
· Developing and delivering required training to MSD employees, as needed; and
· Other duties, as assigned;
A successful candidate should possess the following skills and qualifications:
· Knowledge of Title V, NAAQS, MACT/BACT, GHG, ESG, etc.;
· Ability to read and interpret regulations and perform applicability determinations;
· Proficiency in air emission calculations, regulatory assessments, and technical writing;
· Strong written and oral communication skills with the ability to tailor communication to the needs of the audience (e.g., colleagues, regulatory agencies, etc.);
· Proficient in the use of computer software, Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.;
· Ability to assess complex environmental problems and develop effective, innovative solutions;
· Ability to collaborate with diverse teams, including engineers, government agencies, and the public;
· Expertise in environmental science, chemistry, biology, and engineering principles;
· Knowledge of air pollution control equipment technologies and CEMS software; and
· Strong safety culture; OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER preferred.
