SUMMARY:Forest Bathing at Long Branch Farm and Trails
DESCRIPTION:Program Description: Forest Bathing is a practice of immersing yourself in the tranquility of nature to relieve stress. This guided stroll is an invitation to slow down and awaken the senses\, allowing you to quietly take in nature’s gifts. \nAbout the Guides: Ellen Foley and Dave Thaeler are our guides for this program. Ellen Foley is a Forest Therapy Guide certified with The Association of Nature and Forest Therapy. Ellen’s experiences finding solace in nature inspire her to guide others in mindfully walking through and connecting with the natural world. Dave Thaeler is a retired teacher. He likes how going on a forest bathing walk in a group has a way of deepening the experience for the individual. \nWhat to Expect: This walk will take place entirely outdoors on mostly flat trails; no steps or creek crossings involved. Forest bathing experiences follow a standard sequence that includes quiet\, slow\, attentive walking\, guided sensory experiences\, individual mindful time\, opportunities for group sharing\, and a closing tea ceremony using foraged ingredients. We’ll be walking\, wandering\, standing\, and optionally sitting on the ground. \nHow to Dress: We will be out on the trails and moving slowly. Please dress in layers to ensure proper warmth and comfort. This program runs rain or shine. \nWhat to Bring: The guides will provide sit-upons. You are welcome to carry your own lightweight camp chair. \nWhere to Meet: Registered program participants should look at specific program dates for program location. \nNote: Participants should be prepared to arrive early (10 minutes early recommended). The facilitator will head out on the trail promptly at 10 minutes after posted program start time. If you have never been to the Long Branch Farm and Trails location\, please plan to leave plenty of extra time to allow you to find the site\, park\, use restrooms\, etc. Forest bathing is a sequential program – late arrivals cannot be inserted into the program. \nCost: Program fees include daily admission.

SUMMARY:Energy Management 102 - Audits (Webinar)
DESCRIPTION:If you are currently benchmarking your energy usage in your building\, and you have a year or more of historical data\, you are ready to take the next step on the path to efficient energy management: an energy audit. \nBenchmarking is about learning how much energy you use; auditing is about learning what that energy is used for. What are the biggest energy “sinks” in your building? Is it heating and/or cooling? Is it hot water? Is it refrigeration? Computing? Lighting? An energy audit\, conducted by a qualified expert\, can provide the answers to these questions and those answers then become the foundation for your Energy Management Plan. \nThis webinar will provide an overview of energy audits: How to arrange one? How to determine how much detail you need? How much it should cost\, and whether you can qualify for financial support? And what to do once you have the results? \nThere is no pre-requisite for this webinar\, but it is best suited for people who are already familiar with energy benchmarking and\, ideally\, engaged in that process. \nThis event is offered through the 25 Communities Project.

SUMMARY:Fall 2025 Orchard Installation In Northside
DESCRIPTION:Community Orchard Planting at McKee Rec Center \nDate: Saturday\, November 8th\, 2025\nTime: 10:00 AM – 12:30 PM\nLocation: McKee Rec Center\, Northside\, Cincinnati \nJoin the Common Orchard Project in creating a new public orchard at McKee Rec Center in Northside! \nWe will be planting 12-14 fruit trees including apple\, Asian pear\, European pear\, peach\, and pawpaw varieties to create a productive community food resource. \nOrchards can be less work to produce food over time\, compared to vegetable gardens\, but installation is quite labor intensive. To get these new public orchards off to a good start\, we are organizing these volunteer days to make the work lighter for all! Come learn how to plant trees\, fruit tree care\, and meet neighbors who care as much as you do. \nWe will be planting fruit trees and laying down black plastic to remove the grass. All tools and gloves provided\, just bring a water bottle and wear appropriate outdoor clothing to dig holes and plant trees. We will have locally grown fruit and other snacks. \nAdditional Information: If you are able to join and sign up\, please do follow through! It changes our plans and makes these days difficult if people change their minds at the last minute. We will give a reminder and notice of any extreme weather related changes of plans 2 days before the event.

SUMMARY:Full Moon Walk: Beaver Moon at Long Branch Farm and Trails
DESCRIPTION:Recommended Audience: This program is designed for adults and children 12+. Children must be accompanied by an adult. \nProgram Description: Witness the night’s magic transform the trails as we marvel at the full moon and reveal natural history happenings on this quiet\, guided hike. Full Moon Walks provide rare opportunities to hike Cincinnati Nature Center trails when we’re normally closed. These nighttime walks utilize level upland trails—we avoid hills\, steps\, and stream crossings for safety. \nWhile each Full Moon Walk varies\, we generally stop periodically for natural history moments\, special readings\, or simply to admire the shadows cast by the full moon. As it’s nighttime\, the pace is slower. Leaders adjust the walking speed based on their group. \nWhat to Expect: On a Full Moon Walk\, you’ll take a 1-to-1.5-mile leisurely walk on a trail. The trails may be muddy during wetter times of the year\, but we’ll do our best to keep you dry. \nBased on registrations\, you’ll have the option to choose a group according to your desired pace and peers: \nJoin an easy hike group (level surface) or a more moderate hike group (may walk faster as well as travel up some hills).\nJoin an adult-only group.\nFor more information\, please see how to prepare for a night hike. \nNote: Please arrive promptly for the walk’s start time. Gatehouse only remains open for 15 minutes after program start time. \nWhere to Meet: Registered participants will meet at the Creekside Barn at our Long Branch Farm & Trails location.
