The twin spacecraft\, launched in 1977\, were tasked with exploring the gas giant planets and their moons\, revealing dynamic and mesmerizing worlds along the way. This class will take a look at these groundbreaking missions\, including how the Voyager craft are still being used by NASA in the present day. \nGalileo at Jupiter\nTuesday\, August 19th\, 7-8:30PM \nIn 1995\, the Galileo spacecraft was deployed from the Space Shuttle Atlantis\, destined to become the first spacecraft to orbit a planet in the outer Solar System. During roughly 8 years spent at Jupiter\, Galileo revealed unprecedented detail in the jovian atmosphere\, as well as an up close look at the fascinating Galilean moons. Join us to learn about what Galileo was able to uncover about the largest planet in our Solar System. \nCassini at Saturn\nTuesday\, August 26th\, 7-8:30PM \nLaunched in 1997\, the Cassini spacecraft would become the first to orbit Saturn and went even further by including the Huygens probe\, the first lander destined for the moon of another planet\, Titan. For well over a decade\, Cassini was able to examine the planet\, its rings\, and its menagerie of moons\, while the Huygens lander provided images and measurements of the foreign yet familiar surface of Titan. Learn about the ringed planet from Cassini’s perspective in this class!

SUMMARY:Native Plants for Pollinators
DESCRIPTION:“Planting for pollinators” is an often-repeated mantra in the gardening community. But what\, exactly\, does that mean?\nSupporting pollinators goes beyond growing pretty flowers. It means providing host plants to support larvae\, habitat to shelter through winter and ecological gardening practices that encourage biodiversity. \nThis class will explore these topics\, plus dive deeper into the relationships between our native plants and the pollinators they depend on. All skill levels are welcome! We’ll start with a lecture\, then take a brief tour of the garden. You’ll leave with a list of recommended species as well as an understanding of what it takes to support pollinators through their entire lifecycles. \nINSTRUCTOR: Sam Settlemyre\, CGC Conservation Program Manager

SUMMARY:Make and Take Elderberry Syrup Making at Long Branch Farm and Trails
DESCRIPTION:Intended Audience: This program is designed for adults. \nProgram Description: Humans have used elder for thousands of years. Modern scientific methods have revealed elder’s unique combination of antioxidants and reputed cold-fighting properties. Working in community and taking cues from nature\, you’ll learn by doing as you help transform our Long Branch Farm-grown frozen ripe elderberries into cold-fighting syrup. \nFrom start to finish\, we’ll take you through the process of making elderberry syrup. While it simmers (approximately 30 minutes)\, we’ll process more elderberries\, answer questions about growing native elder bushes in your yard\, discuss uses for finished elderberry syrup\, explore ideas for reusing “spent” elderberries\, and try some samples. We’ll send you home\, inspired\, with some finished elderberry syrup. \nWhat to Expect: This is a hands-on harvest and cooking class that takes place outside and/or in a non-air conditioned barn. \nWe will do some walking (not more than .5 mile) on level terrain. Dress for the weather.\nRestrooms are available throughout the program.\nThis program is mostly outdoors with indoor options available in the case of severe weather.\nProgram runs rain or shine.\nWhat to Bring: Water bottle. \nWhat to Wear: Please dress in “ok-to-get-dirty” clothes as we’ll be working with food. Wear sturdy shoes as we’ll be standing for much of the time. (Chairs available.) \nElderberry Syrup Ingredients: elderberries\, cinnamon sticks\, cloves\, ground ginger\, and honey. \nWhere to Meet: Registered participants will meet at the Creekside Barn at our Long Branch Farm & Trails location. (6926 Gaynor Rd\, Goshen\, OH 45122) \nCost: Ticket fees include daily admission.

DESCRIPTION:eSpace Exploration Series\nClass level: Introductory – This class series is recommended for guests of any background. \nTickets:\nNon-members $25 per class or $65 for 3-class series\nMembers $20 per class or $50 for 3-class series\nStudent (with valid ID) $10 per class or $25 for 3-class series \nThe Voyagers\nTuesday\, August 12th\, 7-8:30PM \nVoyager 1 and 2 are responsible for a revolution in our understanding of the outer Solar System.
