SUMMARY:2025 Midwest Regional Sustainability Summit
DESCRIPTION:About the Midwest Regional Sustainability Summit\nThe Midwest Regional Sustainability Summit is the largest sustainability conference in the Midwest\, bringing together 650 passionate and visionary leaders to share inspiring\, forward-thinking\, and solution-oriented ideas that propel us toward a healthier\, more resilient\, sustainable\, and equitable future. Join Fortune 500 powerhouses\, innovative entrepreneurs\, government officials\, sustainability directors\, academic\, non-profit\, and community leaders committed to solving some of the region’s toughest environmental problems while creating a positive economic impact. \nThe event will feature a full day of programming (8:00 am to 6:00 pm)\, with 100 speakers\, 45 exhibitors\, an art show\, live performances\, breakfast\, lunch\, a networking reception\, and more! \nThe Midwest Regional Sustainability Summit is hosted by Green Umbrella. They connect us\, inspire us\, and motivate meaningful change. Stories communicate our values\, our dreams\, and our tangible impact. And they are a vital tool to bridge complex data and personal experiences\, align collaborative partners toward shared goals\, and create opportunities for transparency and accountability. \nEvery organization and individual has stories to tell that communicate the impact they have and the vision they aspire to. We use them to market our products and services\, to influence decision makers\, or to get donors and grants. To effectively convey the power of our actions we must be strategic about the narratives we craft\, how we share them\, who tells them\, and who is listening. \nAt this year’s Summit\, we invite sustainability leaders from across the Midwest to share the stories of their impact and successful partnerships. Join us to make new connections and celebrate climate solutions as we each find our place in the movement to secure a resilient\, equitable\, and thriving future! \n2025 Program\nKEYNOTE SPEAKER\nDr. Lyla June Johnston (aka Lyla June) is an Indigenous musician\, author\, and community organizer of Diné (Navajo)\, Tsétsêhéstâhese (Cheyenne) and European lineages. Her multi-genre presentation style has engaged audiences across the globe towards personal\, collective\, and ecological healing. She blends her study of Human Ecology at Stanford\, graduate work in Indigenous Pedagogy\, and the traditional worldview she grew up with to inform her music\, perspectives and solutions. Her doctoral research focused on the ways in which pre-colonial Indigenous Nations shaped large regions of Turtle Island (aka the Americas) to produce abundant food systems for humans and non-humans. \nPLENARY PANEL\nThe Power of Sustainable Stories: Inspiring Change Through Climate Narratives \n20 BREAKOUT SESSIONS\nSee full program and learn about our 100 speakers at https://www.midwestsustainabilitysummit.org/ \nTickets & Registration (scroll down to find the registration form)\nExhibitor Registration (comes with a 6-foot table and two tickets):\n– $450 without electricity\n– $550 with electricity \nGeneral Registration: $200 \nStudent Registration: $60 \n** Green Umbrella Member Discount: $25 off per General Admission ticket (with Access Code) **\nPlease reach out to events@greenumbrella.org to check the status of your membership and request the member discount code. \nEconomic Inclusion & Scholarship Tickets:\nThis is an inclusive event\, and we don’t want anyone to be prohibited from attending simply because of cost. SUMMARY:Urban Foraging Tour
DESCRIPTION:Learn to identify edible plants in the landscape\, their uses and benefits and the history of their relationships to humans! \nToo much of our modern food system relies on fossil fuels\, chemicals and long-distance transport. But knowledge of edible plants\, both native and weedy varieties\, allows us to take control of what we put into our bodies. We’ll know just where our food came from and be able to enjoy fresh\, local produce for free. Knowing these plants’ history also reconnects us to those who came before us and to the place we call home. And foraging is a fun and resourceful way to reduce our environmental impact and appreciate the world around us! \nWe’ll meet at the Green Learning Station\, then walk around Hauck Botanic Garden\, learning and sampling as we go. You’ll leave with a new perspective on the common plants around us as well as insights on native plants and our relationship with them. And you’re welcome to bring a bag or basket to gather a few of your favorite edible plants to take home. \nYou do not have to have your own yard to benefit from this class\, as responsible urban foraging can be done anywhere. However\, to get the most out of this class\, you must be interested in native plants and their history. The event is beginner friendly\, but even those with some foraging experience may learn something new in this class. And kids who are old enough to walk around for an hour are welcome! \nINSTRUCTOR: Howard Zuefle\, nursery manager of Growing Value Nursery (the Cincinnati Permaculture Institute’s edible plant nursery at the Enright EcoVillage)
