SUMMARY:Trail Yoga
DESCRIPTION:Registration Requirements: Preregistration required. \nRecommended Audience: This program is designed for adults. Children of any age are more than welcome with the understanding that it is an adult yoga class\, so children under 13 years of age may not be able to do everything or stay interested in the class. Adults will have to decide how much management of their children they are interested in doing. \nProgram Description: Connect to nature in a deeper way through the mindful movement and meditative practices found in yoga. During this on-the-trail experience\, participants might draw upon the stability of trees for balancing postures or extend into a turtle pose by the pond. Become part of nature by meditating in a creek\, hugging trees\, and breathing in the life force around you. All levels are welcome. \nAbout the Guides: Diane H. Schmidt uses her years of experience as a certified Kripalu Yoga instructor to guide others through a gentle yoga experience that brings in elements of nature. As the founder of the first Cincinnati yoga studio\, Cincinnati Yoga School and Bookstore\, Diane has led many yoga classes and developed her style that focuses on the gentle stretches and mindful movement to help soothe stress. \nAmber Tucker has been volunteering for several years and has used yoga to heal from a medical setback. In 2024\, she began her Yoga Teacher Training\, inspired to share this path with others. Nature is her sanctuary\, and she looks forward to guiding others in discovering harmony between movement\, breath\, and the natural world. \nWhat to Expect: No prior yoga experience is necessary to enjoy this class. The instructor’s goal is to make yoga accessible for everyone using props and variations\, as needed. Trails and distances will vary between classes\, and we may encounter steps. Intensity is easy to moderate. \nThis program is entirely outdoors.\nRestrooms are available only at the start and end of the program\, as we will be out on the trails during the program.\nProgram runs rain or shine.\nWhat to Bring: Guests should bring water if the day is hot\, and a hiking stick if you have one for fun poses. (We will also have plenty of sticks to borrow or find in the forest to use for this purpose as well). SUMMARY:Make and Take: Elderberry Syrup at Long Branch Farm and Trails
DESCRIPTION:Registration Requirements: Preregistration required. \nIntended Audience: This program is designed for adults. \nProgram Description: Humans have used elder for thousands of years. Modern scientific methods have revealed elder’s unique combination of antioxidants and reputed cold-fighting properties. Working in community and taking cues from nature\, you’ll learn by doing as you help harvest ripe elderberries from our farmed plots\, then head back to the barn to destem\, wash\, and process the berries. \nFrom start to finish\, we’ll take you through the process of making elderberry syrup. While it simmers (approximately 30 minutes)\, we’ll process more elderberries\, answer questions about growing native elder bushes in your yard\, discuss uses for finished elderberry syrup\, explore ideas for reusing “spent” elderberries\, and try some samples. We’ll send you home\, inspired\, with some finished elderberry syrup. \nWhat to Expect: This is a hands-on harvest and cooking class that takes place outside and/or in a non-air-conditioned barn. \nWe will do some walking (not more than 0.5 mile) on level terrain. Dress for the weather.\nRestrooms are available throughout the program.\nThis program is mostly outdoors with indoor options available in the case of severe weather.\nProgram runs rain or shine.\nWhat to Bring: Water bottle. \nWhat to Wear: Please dress in “ok-to-get-dirty” clothes as we’ll be working with food. Wear sturdy shoes as we’ll be standing for much of the time. (Chairs available.) \nElderberry Syrup Ingredients: elderberries\, cinnamon sticks\, cloves\, ground ginger\, and honey. \nWhere to Meet: Registered participants will meet at the Creekside Barn at our Long Branch Farm & Trails location. (6926 Gaynor Rd\, Goshen\, OH 45122) \nCost: Ticket fees include daily admission.

SUMMARY:Native Plants for Migrating Birds
DESCRIPTION:Discover the incredible journeys of migratory birds and how to welcome them to your garden with plants they love! \nEvery backyard and greenspace has the potential to serve as a critical rest stop for migratory birds. By understanding plant-bird relationships\, we can provide the high-energy fuel birds need to survive their journeys. Whether you’re a homeowner\, community gardener\, greenspace steward\, or nature enthusiast looking to connect local plant choices with wildlife conservation\, this class is for you. \nWe’ll start by exploring what makes a bird migratory\, share an inspiring story of one specific bird’s journey\, and review a curated list of native plant partnerships. Along the way\, you’ll learn about the mechanics of seasonal migrations\, how to pair regional flora with the dietary and shelter needs of traveling birds\, and more. As the class comes to a close\, we’ll wrap up with a fun bird trivia quiz. Our goal is that you’ll leave feeling inspired and ready to install native plants in your space to attract and provide for more of the migratory birds that you’d like to see. \nFrom Luis\, your instructor for the class: “My connection to birding started in the Gulf Coast of Texas in 2016\, where I started out in wetland ecosystems. I often saw whooping cranes\, sandhill cranes\, painted buntings\, roseate spoonbills\, indigo buntings\, purple martins—the list goes on. Because of how hurricanes have impacted the area\, a lot of the natural coast in Texas has been chipped away\, removing critical native wildlife habitat. Around the world\, there are similar stories like this\, where environmental and anthropogenic events negatively affect the native wildlife. All of these stories inspire me to ask: What can we\, as native plant enthusiasts\, do to help support this cause in our own way?” \nINSTRUCTOR: Luis Aguilar-Dwyer (CGC Environmental Education Specialist)

SUMMARY:Soft Edges
DESCRIPTION:Soft Edges features six regional women artists whose practices challenge the traditional divide between fine art and craft. Grounded in tradition\, material\, and environment\, the exhibition embraces slower\, hands-on approaches to creating that challenge Western hierarchies of art in the modern era. \nThese works reconnect audiences with deeply human traditions\, highlighting artistic practices that carry forward—and re-imagine—forgotten arts. Curated by Devan Horton\, the exhibition brings together artists whose work reflects a shared commitment to material knowledge\, sustainability\, and regional identity\, positioning craft-based practices as both culturally vital and conceptually rigorous within contemporary art. \nThis event is sponsorsed by Sustainergy Coooperative.
