DESCRIPTION:Course Runs January 13– February 26\, 2026 and includes: \nEvery Tuesday and Thursday night from 6–8 pm on Zoom (Tuesday\, January 13–Thursday\, February 26\, 2026)\nJanuary 13\, 15\, 20\, 22\, 27\, 29\,\nFebruary 3\, 5\, 10\, 12\, 17\, 19\, 24\, 26\n12 hours of fun self-guided outdoor assignments are also required \nRegistration Requirements: Preregistration required. Register by January 12\, 2026. \nRecommended Audience: This program is available to adults and mature teens 16 and up; however\, only participants ages 18 and up who complete the course will receive certification through OSU. \nProgram Description: Cincinnati Nature Center is proud to be a host site and partner with Ohio State University Extension for this 40-hour educational course that encompasses the topics of Ohio’s watersheds\, aquatic life\, geology\, soils\, plants\, forests\, insects\, and animals (reptiles\, amphibians\, birds and mammals). \nEach topic is taught by experts and community stakeholders from across the region. \nTo receive certification\, upon completing the OCVN course participants must document 40 hours of volunteer service and/or continuing education at any Ohio organization with a compatible program mission. In addition\, after certification\, 30 hours of volunteer service and/or continuing education are required annually to remain certified. \nIf you choose not to pursue certification\, you are still welcome to take this course for your own knowledge and enjoyment. \nMore information about the OCVN program can be found on Extension’s Ohio Certified Volunteer Naturalist Page. \nTo understand more about the certification requirements\, visit the OCVN’s Frequently Asked Questions Webpage. \nThe mission of the Ohio Certified Volunteer Naturalist program is to “promote awareness and citizen stewardship of Ohio’s natural resources through science-based education and community service.” \nThe course is offered throughout the state\, and Cincinnati Nature Center is the largest provider. Here\, we offer four different formats—one is sure to fit your needs! Plan ahead and mark your calendars to register\, because each cohort sells out quickly! \nProgram Benefits: \nMeet like-minded new friends and get to know Nature Center staff while taking your commitment to nature a step further!\nLearn about the biology\, ecology\, and natural history of Ohio and how to share the knowledge with others.\nBecome part of a local and statewide network of dedicated volunteers.\nApply your talents and passion to protecting\, restoring\, and understanding Ohio’s natural treasures.\nMeet experts in a variety of fields.\nPlease note: \nThis program is available to adults and mature teens 16 and up; however\, only participants ages 18 and up who complete the course will receive certification through OSU.\nAll courses require a computer or tablet for you to watch videos and take quizzes at home.\nWhat to Expect: Winter Cohort (all live online\, weeknights) \nThis schedule offers a lot of flexibility and can be done from anywhere in the state. The evening lectures are live on Zoom\, where you can talk with presenters and classmates in the comfort of your home. DESCRIPTION:Join The Common Orchard Project for our annual Winter Pruning Blitz! This collaborative event brings together volunteers from across the region to learn hands-on pruning techniques while caring for community orchards in Walnut Hills\, East End\, North Side\, and Colerain. \nWe’ll start the morning with a demonstration at the Melrose Orchard in Walnut Hills then split into crews led by experienced pruners to work at multiple orchards throughout the day. This is a perfect opportunity for anyone interested in learning more about fruit tree care\, meeting fellow orchard enthusiasts\, and potentially joining our orchard stewardship program. \nAll tools and safety equipment provided. No experience necessary—just bring your enthusiasm and dress for the weather! \nPartners: Walnut Hills Redevelopment Foundation\, Turner Farm\, confirming others\, and community orchard stewards across Cincinnati. \nPlease bring: Your own pruning shears if you have them\, and any other pruning tools you’d like to use. SUMMARY:The Great Honeysuckle Hunt
DESCRIPTION:Step into Imago’s urban forest for our fun and friendly habitat restoration competition. The Great Honeysuckle Hunt will task volunteers to compete in teams to see who can bring back the largest invasive Amur Honeysuckle plant. There will be prizes for teams that find the heaviest and the tallest honeysuckle bush and remove it from the soil. The Great Honeysuckle Hunt will end with s’mores\, warm drinks and an award ceremony!
