The Melrose Medicinal Garden is a community garden located at 2647 Melrose Ave in the Walnut Hills neighborhood of Cincinnati. Garden workdays happen most Thursdays 10am-noon during the growing season. \nWork alongside a team of volunteers weeding\, harvesting\, & caring for a plethora of medicinal perennials thriving in an urban greenspace. Each volunteer day\, we work together on a variety of tasks\, then enjoy herbal tea in the garden. Interested volunteers can email Meghan at ocotilloherbals@gmail.com to be added to a volunteer email list. Volunteers must RSVP at least 48 hours before each workday.

DESCRIPTION:Walk through a pumpkin-lit trail meeting characters from nature and history. This is a non-scary holiday walk best suited for children ages 3-10 years old. Make it a family tradition! \nThis event is held entirely outdoors. Please dress accordingly for the weather. Closed-toed hiking shoes are encouraged. The trail is not stroller friendly. There are stairs and some uneven footing on parts of this trail. Please leave your pets at home. Participants are welcome to wear their Halloween costumes if you want however there are no trick-or-treat stations at this event. \nHikes start at 6:00 p.m. and leave every 5 minutes until 8:15 p.m. Each hike lasts about one hour. Please be prompt and prepared to hike at your scheduled time.

We’ll work with seasonal plants\, roots\, bark\, and botanicals to understand how bitterness functions in traditional herbalism\, cocktail culture\, and plant chemistry. \nParticipants will learn foundational extraction methods\, flavor balancing\, and the historical uses of bitters across cultures—from digestive tonics to modern mixology. Along the way\, we’ll discuss how wild plants develop their bitter compounds and how those same compounds can be transformed into complex\, aromatic flavoring agents. \nWhat to Expect: Each participant will create their own custom jar of bitters using foraged ingredients\, which will continue to develop and mature at home. The result is a personal\, small-batch bitters blend rooted in place and season. \nThis is a hands-on\, outdoor class with an indoor space in the event of severe weather.\nRestrooms are available at the start and end of the program. Drawing on culinary inspiration from around the globe and throughout time\, you’ll experience the story of the land through food. Part cooking demo infused with natural history\, part farm tour spiced with storytelling…it’s one big celebration of native plants. \nFrom the history of land use to our current work to the vision for the future of Long Branch Farm & Trails\, you’ll be able to taste how we work with the land to create hyper-local\, foraged\, wild-tended\, and farmed native foods. This experience includes a walking tour of our native perennial polyculture plots. \nAbout the Instructors: Led by CNC conservation and programming staff. \nWhat to Expect: This is a cooking station-based progressive meal experience. Participants will be able to make the rounds\, sampling food bites\, talk with staff and volunteers about the purpose\, methods\, and goals of our foraging and farming of native species efforts\, and have the opportunity to get to know other participants. For those interested\, there will be some optional activities involving harvesting\, food prep\, etc. \nTrails/areas used during this program are rated as easy (mild hills\, gravel trails) for a planned distance of less than 0.5 miles at a slow pace.\nThe experience is focused around an old barn and two large native garden plots—the terrain is mostly flat.\nRestrooms are available throughout the program.\nPets are not permitted at Cincinnati Nature Center programs or events.\nProgram runs rain or shine.\nWhat to Wear: Dress to be out and about on a farm\, and dress for the weather (it may cool down in the evening). Open to both new and returning volunteers\, these hands-on workdays offer a great opportunity to explore our local nature preserves\, connect with the community\, and make a meaningful impact. Volunteers may help remove invasive plants\, maintain trails\, install signage\, or clean up litter. During some events\, we may also conduct our yearly preserve inspections\, giving volunteers a behind-the-scenes look at how we care for and maintain the land we protect. Register all adults and children 3 and over. \nIntended Audience: This program is designed for children ages 3 and up\, accompanied by an adult caregiver. Children must ve accompanied by an adult. \nProgram Description: Spiders\, bats\, and bones\, oh my! Don your costumes and bring a flashlight for this non-spooky woodland Halloween adventure. This event will feature nature crafts\, activities\, and festive treats. Meet some of our famous\, Cincinnati Nature Center Animal Ambassadors and stroll the trails as the sun sets on the autumn forest. \nAll children at this event will receive a goodie bag upon checking in. Along the event trail\, they will receive several pieces of candy and a couple prizes to put in their goodie bag. \nAct quickly\, tickets won’t last long! \nWhat to Expect: \nRestrooms are available at the Visitor Center and PlayScape.\nThis event will traverse about a half-mile of easy trail with minimal hills or elevation changes for a planned distance of less than 1 mile at your own pace. Adults will have to decide how much management of their children they are interested in doing. \nProgram Description: Connect to nature in a deeper way through the mindful movement and meditative practices found in yoga. During this on-the-trail experience\, participants might draw upon the stability of trees for balancing postures or extend into a turtle pose by the pond. Become part of nature by meditating in a creek\, hugging trees\, and breathing in the life force around you. All levels are welcome. \nAbout the Guides: Diane H. Schmidt uses her years of experience as a certified Kripalu Yoga instructor to guide others through a gentle yoga experience that brings in elements of nature. As the founder of the first Cincinnati yoga studio\, Cincinnati Yoga School and Bookstore\, Diane has led many yoga classes and developed her style that focuses on gentle stretches and mindful movement to help soothe stress. \nAmber Tucker has been volunteering for several years and has used yoga to heal from a medical setback. In 2024\, she began her Yoga Teacher Training\, inspired to share this path with others. Nature is her sanctuary\, and she looks forward to guiding others in discovering harmony between movement\, breath\, and the natural world. \nWhat to Expect: No prior yoga experience is necessary to enjoy this class. The instructor’s goal is to make yoga accessible for everyone using props and variations\, as needed. Trails and distances will vary between classes\, and we may encounter steps. DESCRIPTION:RAPTOR Inc’s facilities are open to the public during our Open House Events and by appointment only. On the last Sunday of each month (March-November) from 1pm to 4pm our highly skilled educators will be available to welcome guests\, lead tours\, conduct educational programs with our avian ambassadors\, share biological artifacts\, and answer questions. You will have the opportunity to visit various educational stations where you can see and learn about the birds of prey native to our area and the work that RAPTOR Inc. does to protect these magnificent creatures. The Open Houses are FUN and FREE\, but DONATIONS are greatly appreciated! (Private tours and educational programs can still be scheduled at other times by appointment for a fee.)

DESCRIPTION:Registration Requirements: Preregistration required. \nIntended Audience: This program is designed for adults. \nProgram Description: Grab your date and head out for a late-night adventure with just enough edge to keep things interesting. Guided by lantern light\, you’ll explore the trails after dark\, swap stories\, listen for things rustling in the woods (real or imagined)\, stargaze if the skies allow\, and embrace a little Halloween mischief along the way. \nExpect a few playful surprises\, seasonal treats\, and maybe even a jump or two as you make your way through the night. It’s the perfect mix of outdoor adventure\, lighthearted spooky fun\, and a date you’ll definitely be talking about afterward. \nWhat to Expect: \nTrails/areas used during this program are rated as difficult (may have significant elevation changes\, stream crossings may have limited stepping stones\, and/or the trail may be remote) for a planned distance of 1 mile at a moderate pace.\nRestrooms are available at the start and end of the program. Restrooms are not available on the trails.\nThis program is entirely outdoors.\nPets are not permitted at Cincinnati Nature Center programs or events.\nProgram runs rain or shine.\nWhere to Meet: Registered participants will meet in the lobby of the Visitor Center at our Rowe Woods location.
