SUMMARY:Green Drinks with Green Umbrella & UC: Connecting Research & Climate Health
DESCRIPTION:Join Green Umbrella for Green Drinks on Thursday\, October 15\, from 5:00–7:00 PM at Alive & Well in Clifton. This month\, we’re bringing together the Green Umbrella and University of Cincinnati communities for an evening of casual networking and conversation around the ways higher education\, research\, and the broader community can collaborate to advance sustainability and climate health across Greater Cincinnati. \nIn collaboration with UC’s Center for Public Engagement with Science (PEWS) and Center for Collaboration on Climate & Community for Health (C4H)\, we’ll explore opportunities for students\, faculty\, researchers\, staff\, community leaders\, sustainability professionals\, and others to connect and collaborate. Learn more about what these UC centers are doing in our community\, discover ways to engage with Green Umbrella (including through initiatives like our Climate Research Incubator) and meet others interested in turning research\, ideas\, and expertise into meaningful regional action. \nYou don’t need to be a UC student or researcher to attend – everyone is welcome! Come grab a drink\, meet new people\, and explore how we can work together toward a more sustainable and resilient Greater Cincinnati. \nFree and open to the public. Please RSVP.

SUMMARY:Fall 2026 Orchard Installation In Gamble Montessori Elementary
DESCRIPTION:Join the Common Orchard Project in creating a new public orchard! \nOrchards can be less work to produce food over time compared to vegetable gardens\, but installation is quite labor intensive. To get these new public orchards off to a good start\, we are organizing these volunteer days to make the work lighter for all! Come learn how to plant trees\, fruit tree care\, and meet neighbors who care as much as you do. \nEvent Info: \n\nOctober 24\, Saturday\, 10:00 AM – 12:30 PM\nGamble Montessori Elementary\n2700 Felicity Pl\, Cincinnati\, OH 45211\n\nWe will be planting ~10 trees and laying down black plastic to remove the grass. If you are looking for a snapshot into what this might look like\, check out this video we created with a funding partner back in 2022.  \nAll tools and gloves provided\, just bring a water bottle and wear appropriate outdoor clothing to dig holes and plant trees.  \nAdditional Information: \nIf you are able to join and sign up\, please do follow through! It changes our plans and makes these days difficult if people change their minds at the last minute. We will give a reminder and notice of any extreme weather related changes of plans 2 days before the event. \nWe will have locally grown fruit and other snacks. \n

SUMMARY:Upcycling Toolkit Webinar
DESCRIPTION:Green Umbrella’s Food Policy Council and Hamilton County Public Health’s WeTHRIVE! initiative will be co-hosting a webinar to share our newly published Upcycling Kitchen Toolkit! This webinar will briefly highlight the contents of this resource and provide insights into this work from organizations who operate upcycling kitchens. \nYou will get the opportunity to hear from: \nKatie Funk – Inspire and Innovation Director\, La Soupe \nAmanda DeLotelle – Executive Director\, Miami Valley Meals \nGeorgine Getty – Executive Director\, Our Daily Bread \nUpcycling Kitchens play a key role in our food system. They transform surplus\, imperfect\, or by-product foods\, such as cosmetically flawed produce\, into nutritious meals. By bridging food rescue\, local producers\, and consumers\, they cut landfill waste and methane emissions while creating jobs and expanding access to affordable\, nutritious food for all. \nWhether you want to learn more about upcycling diverted food or have an existing commercial space that could be used to help transformation efforts\, this webinar will serve as a jumping off point! \nKeep an eye out for more hands-on training in 2027\, as we dive deeper into bringing this toolkit to life for interested partners.
