DESCRIPTION:POSTPONED DUE TO TRAIL CONDITIONS \nJoin Green Umbrella’s Greenspace Alliance\, Cardinal Land Conservancy\, and the Center for Collaboration on Climate and Community for Health (C4H) at Cardinal’s Westmark Woods\, for a Meet A Greenspace Hike on Thursday\, August 13th from 8-9:30 am! \nLocated in Springfield Township\, Westmark Woods is a 25 acre-property and the newest addition to Cardinal’s preserves. The West Fork of the Mill Creek flows through the preserve on the way to Great Park’s Winton Woods. \nThe Center for Collaboration on Climate and Community for Health\, also known as C4H\, is a center at the University of Cincinnati. Founded in 2024\, C4H is among an elite group of 21 centers nationwide with a specific focus on climate-related exposures and the impacts to human health.\n\nThis Meet A Greenspace Hike will be a unique opportunity to explore an urban greenspace alongside an organization working to preserve our natural spaces\, as well as scientists who are working to understand and reduce the impacts of climate exposures on the community.\nThe hike will be an easy to moderate 0.9 miles in length over dirt paths and two bridges and will be guided by staff from Cardinal.  \nPlease dress accordingly\, wear proper shoes for hiking\, and bring plenty of water! We will meet at the park entrance. The Park is located at 872 Compton Rd.\, Cincinnati\, OH 45231. Join us for the Give a Hoot for Oxbow – Invasive Plant Removal on Saturday\, August 15\, from 8:00 AM – 10:00 AM\n\nDuring these volunteer days\, we will be tackling one of our biggest conservation challenges: invasive plant species. Events will focus on cutting/pulling honeysuckle\, Japanese chaff flower\, Japanese stiltgrass\, and garlic mustard- all of which will later be replaced with native plants\, with a focus on improving wood duck habitat! DESCRIPTION:Green Umbrella’s Greenspace Alliance and partners invite you to join us for part two of an in-person candidate forum on balancing economic development and greenspace preservation in Northern Kentucky\, featuring County Commissioner candidates running for local office in Boone\, Kenton\, and Campbell counties. \nNew questions will be curated\, and topic areas will be expanded for this second installment of the NKY Candidate Forum. All candidates will be invited to share their positions and plans on issues related to development\, land use\, and greenspace preservation\, and will answer questions from partners and the public that will be curated prior to the event. \nWe are seeking your input on what to ask our candidates! Please submit your questions by September 15 via this form.  \nThe forum will take place on Wednesday\, September 23rd\, at 6:00 pm in the Anne Room at the Erlanger Branch of the Kenton County Library (401 Kenton Lands\, Erlanger\, Kentucky\, 41018). DESCRIPTION:Whether you’re a long-time supporter of the Common Orchard Project or brand new to our work\, this is a great opportunity to connect with others in the community while helping care for and grow one of our shared orchard spaces. \nWe host volunteer days on the third Saturday of each month to support ongoing orchard and site development. Volunteers may help with seasonal tasks such as composting\, planting\, nursery work\, and general site care. No prior experience is needed\, everyone is welcome. \nThis is a hands-on\, community-focused workday where you can learn more about the orchard and how the site is cared for while contributing to the long-term health of the site. \nEvent Details\nLocation: Camp Washington Perennial Farm\nAddress: 3220 Colerain Ave\, Cincinnati\, OH\nDate: Third Saturday of the Month\nTime: 9:00 AM-12:00 PM\nSchedule: Third Saturday of each month\nParking: Use the River City lot\, park nearest to the farm entrance and walk over to the farm \nWhat to Expect:\n– Seasonal orchard and farm tasks (varies by month)\n– A welcoming\, collaborative environment\n– Light snacks and water provided\n– Please wear comfortable clothing and sturdy shoes suitable for outdoor work\n– The farm is still in development\, so ground conditions may be uneven\n– The nearest public restroom is available at Mom & ’Em Coffee nearby \nPossible Monthly Activities \nTo give an idea of the types of projects volunteers may help with throughout the year\, here is a sample list of seasonal activities. Exact tasks may change depending on site needs\, and we will guide volunteers through whatever work is most relevant for that month. \nFebruary – Compost bagging & winter cleanup\nMarch – Nursery work\, potting herbs & flowers\nApril – Berry planting\nMay – Final nursery potting & site prep\nJune – Mulching & orchard maintenance\nJuly – Cover crop & flower harvest\nAugust – Summer cleanup\nSeptember – Tree nursery prep for orchard install\nOctober – Chasing chickens & mulching beds\nNovember – Fall cleanup & winter prep\nDecember – NO VOLUNTEER DAY (Christmas break) \nWe really hope to see you there!
