SUMMARY:Monarchs\, Milkweed\, & more
DESCRIPTION:Join the CGC to learn to protect and monitor monarchs\, grow native milkweed\, and supercharge your backyard habitat—just in time for fall planting! \nLate August is a high-stakes window for breeding and migrating monarch populations. By understanding how you can best support this special species in your home\, school\, community\, or public greenspace\, you’re helping to increase urban biodiversity\, monitor local habitats\, and helping to provide immediate\, measurable lifelines for these endangered pollinators. \nAnd this issue is particularly timely. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service has proposed listing the Monarch butterfly under the Endangered Species Act\, but a final ruling is delayed. This means voluntary\, community-driven backyard habitats and local data collection are officially the most critical tools we have to protect them. This class is designed to teach you how to navigate this real-world conservation crisis right from your own neighborhood. \nWe’ll begin the class with an overview of monarch conservation and local milkweed varieties\, then explore a monarch monitoring and surveying method and community science projects. We hope you’ll leave feeling excited and fully prepared to kickstart or enhance a productive pollinator habitat in your own yard! \nINSTRUCTOR: Luis Aguilar-Dwyer (CGC Environmental Education Specialist)

SUMMARY:Full Moon Walk: Lightning Moon at Long Branch Farm and Trails
DESCRIPTION:Registration Requirements: Preregistration required. \nRecommended Audience: This program is designed for adults and children 12+. Children must be accompanied by an adult. \nProgram Description: Witness the night’s magic transform the trails as we marvel at the full moon and reveal natural history happenings on this quiet\, guided hike. Full Moon Walks provide rare opportunities to hike Cincinnati Nature Center trails when we’re normally closed. \nWhile each Full Moon Walk varies\, we generally stop periodically for natural history moments\, special readings\, or simply to admire the shadows cast by the full moon. As it’s nighttime\, the pace is slower. Leaders adjust the walking speed based on their group. \nWhat to Expect: On a Full Moon Walk\, you’ll take a 1-to-1.5-mile leisurely walk on a trail. \nWe avoid steps and stream crossings for safety.\nThe trails may be muddy during wetter times of the year\, but we’ll do our best to keep you dry.\nFor more information\, please see how to prepare for a night hike.\nPets are not permitted at Cincinnati Nature Center programs or events.\nProgram runs rain or shine.\nNote: Please arrive promptly for the walk’s start time. Gatehouse only remains open for 15 minutes after program start time. \nWhere to Meet: Registered participants will meet at the Creekside Barn at our Long Branch Farm & Trails location. (6926 Gaynor Rd\, Goshen\, OH 45122) \nPricing: Ticket fees include daily admission.
