The Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden has been dedicated to the conservation of plants and animals since 1875. Proclaimed the “Greenest Zoo in America” in 2010, the Zoo has continued to lead the way in sustainability and green initiatives by greening its daily operations and reducing its impact on the environment. Through green building, solid waste management, renewable energy, water conservation, storm water management, energy efficiency and community outreach, the Zoo has strengthened its sustainability program to have a positive impact on the planet and its people. Join Fia Turczynewycz, the Zoo’s Sustainable Communities Advocate and resident Green Queen to hear stories on how the Zoo has reduced water consumption by over 85%; invested in more renewable energy than any other zoo in the country; built the most sustainable habitats for animals in human care, including Fiona the world famous hippo; and have impacted their community in a tremendous ways – resulting in unrelenting natural resource conservation, and the preservation of the natural and wild spaces that we all love to appreciate and explore.
