The momentum for improving trail connectivity in Greater Cincinnati has come a long way since Tri-State Trails was organized as an initiative of Green Umbrella in 2013. Millions of dollars have been invested in constructing over 35 miles of trails and on-road bike lanes, and many more are in the works. In fact, $191 million is now committed to fund pedestrian and bike infrastructure through OKI Regional Council of Government's 2040 Regional Transportation Plan as a result of Tri-State Trails' advocacy. To illustrate the demand for expanding and connecting trails, we developed and implemented a comprehensive regional trail measurement program, in partnership with Interact for Health, which estimates 11 million miles were traveled by users of our trail network in 2017. Through our multi-jurisdictional projects like CROWN and Miami 2 Miami Connection, we're uniting cross-sector partners behind a common goal--to connect our communities.
In 2018, Tri-State Trails' Summit will explore how we can advance our collaborative efforts to spur innovation, encourage economic development, and promote equity in future trail development. We are excited to feature keynote speaker Kären Haley, Executive Director of Indianapolis Cultural Trail, Inc., to share the story of how Indianapolis was able to create a world renowned 8-mile bike and pedestrian path and linear park.
