Green Umbrella & Partners Help 5,000 Children Experience the Great Outdoors
CINCINNATI, OH – Many of us remember exploring the wonders of nature as kids – from splashing in a creek or paddling on a waterway, to catching a fish or viewing the sky through a powerful telescope. For children whose access to greenspace is limited, these experiences may be harder to come by, if not for the Kids Outdoor Adventure Expo. This free interactive outdoor and environmental education event is the largest of its kind in the Midwest, and it returns to the Tri-State for the 12th year on Friday, July 14
from 9:30 am – 3:00 pm
at Winton Woods Harbor.
Green Umbrella and Great Parks of Hamilton County are partnering to host the event, where 5,000 children are expected to take part in activities such as rafting, fishing, rock-climbing and much more. All children and families are welcome to attend, and it is through the generous support of sponsors that Green Umbrella is able to provide free bus transportation to approximately 2,500 children participating in camps and summertime programs from all over the Greater Cincinnati region. For Green Umbrella, it’s an important way to encourage an appreciation for the outdoors and help grow the next generation of environmental stewards. For many of these children, it is an experience in the outdoors they’ll never forget.
Also helping to make this day happen is Morgan’s Outdoor Adventures, a local family owned business. Each year, Morgan’s donates rafts and paddles so that every kid who attends the event has the chance to paddle – many for their first time ever. "For 50 years, the Morgan family has been sharing our love for nature by offering unforgettable experiences in the outdoors. This is one more way that we get to do that, and give back to our community at the same time,” says Gary Morgan of Morgan’s Outdoor Adventures.
With partners such as Morgan’s, Kids Expo has been able to grow in size and scope, offering over 60 activities and exhibitors, each taking part in one of four focus areas:
- Let’s Move! Children will run, jump, play, climb, dance and learn what to eat, so that they can always keep their body healthy and active.
- Let’s Splash! Children will go fishing in Winton Lake, learn all about water quality and safety, and paddle in a raft on Winton Lake.
- Let’s Explore! Children will get up close and personal with nature and wildlife, learning all about what they may find in their own backyard.
- Let’s Go Green! Children will discover what they can do to become a steward of the environment: planting, composting, recycling, and gardening, all to care for our planet.
The Kids Outdoor Adventure Expo is open to the public and is rain or shine (no rain date). Winton Woods Harbor is located across the street from 10245 Winton Road. To learn more about the event, visit www.meetmeoutdoors.org/kids-expo
The Kids Outdoor Adventure Expo is made possible by these generous sponsors: Carol Ann & Ralph V. Haile, Jr./U.S. Bank Foundation, Interact for Health, Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center, CLIF Bar, Mayerson Foundation and Morgan’s Outdoor Adventures.
