    About this position:

    Description: 

    The Foundation for Ohio River Education (FORE) is seeking candidates to help conduct environmental education programs. FORE is the non-profit partner of ORSANCO (Ohio River Valley Water Sanitation Commission). The primary focus of the position will be to lead and co-lead education programs. Programs pertain to environmental and biological topics such as macroinvertebrates, water quality, stream assessments, fish ecology, and plankton. Environmental Educators work in direct partnership with other educators and under supervision of ORSANCO’s Environmental Education and Outreach Coordinator.

    Previous environmental education experience and environmental science or biological education preferred.

    Hours vary in frequency based on the type and number of programs scheduled, which has seasonal flux. Educators are hired throughout the year as needed.

    Requirements:

    Applicants must have, or be willing to obtain a First Aid/CPR certification.

    $13-$15

    About this position:

    The Southwest Ohio Pollution Prevention (P2) Internship Program is a summer internship program that pairs student interns with companies in Hamilton, Butler, and Clermont counties seeking new and innovative approaches to environmental efficiency and conservation. Currently, we are seeking intern applicants for our 2023 host company in Hamilton County, the Cincinnati Recycling & Reuse Hub.

    About the Cincinnati Recycling & Reuse Hub:

    The goal of the Cincinnati Recycling & Reuse Hub (CRRH) is to help mitigate the effects of climate change by increasing recycling, reuse, and landfill diversion rates in the greater Cincinnati area. CCRH reduces the amount of waste going to landfills through their one-stop drop-off location where they accept a lot of items and materials that are recyclable and reusable, even those that are not permitted in traditional recycling bins. The one-stop model is unique in that it saves time, effort, and gas for donors, and it allows for more items to be recycled or reused than the current waste/recycling/reuse infrastructure for the Greater Cincinnati Area does.

    Intern Responsibilities:

    The intern will be given responsibilities that assist his/her/their learning and experience in implementing pollution prevention and sustainability initiatives including:

    • Attend a two-day pollution prevention training, prior to the start of site-specific project work Communicate the mission and pollution prevention efforts of the CRRH via posts, video, and stories on social media
    • Create sustainability dashboards to track and interpret waste diversion benefits Establish and maintain relationships with CRRH partners (governments, non-profits, public interest groups, etc.)
    • Research grant opportunities and present findings to CRRH board members Administer surveys to understand demographics of those served by the CRRH and provide recommendations for how to improve environmental justice issues

    Qualifications:

    • Must be an undergraduate or graduate student with at least two years of undergraduate education completed

    Primary Responsibilities:

    • Implement farm-based education programs for groups of 8-12 people, including children.
    • Safely lead participants in on-site educational interactions with animals and gardens.
    • Implement Farm-to-Classroom programs that take education materials and animals off-site to schools and community centers.
    • Prepare, create, organize, set-up and break-down education materials.
    • Develop and maintain a positive relationship with Education Volunteers by offering teaching tips, support and setting a positive example.

    Additional Responsibilities:

    This position requires the following physical activities: walking uphill, climbing, bending, lifting, standing, sitting, reaching, finger dexterity, repetitive motions, talking, hearing and visual acuity. The work is performed indoors and outdoors in sun, wind and rain.

    Founded in 2015 by Chef Suzy DeYoung, La Soupe is a nonprofit with a mission to reduce food waste and food insecurity across the Greater Cincinnati Region. La Soupe's chefs and volunteers use rescued food to create delicious, healthy meals to share with partner agencies who distribute those meals to clients facing food insecurity. La Soupe's culinary education classes address the root causes of food insecurity by creating ways for people to access the knowledge, skills, and tools needed to make nutritious meals. La Soupe's Nourish program provides soups and nutritional interventions for heart health and diabetes to Share Partners, who offer wraparound health services for vulnerable communities. With the support of dedicated volunteers, La Soupe has rescued over 4 million pounds of food and shared over 2.5 million restaurant-quality servings since its inception.

    Overview:

    The Development Director is responsible for the creation and/or refinement, implementation, tracking and managing of a strategic plan to ensure the continued growth of operating support and special project funding annually.

    Duties include overseeing and managing all aspects of:

    • Fundraising efforts, including the annual campaign
    • Building strong and successful relationships
    • Maintaining ongoing communications with donors, volunteers, community organizations, corporations, and foundations
    • Establishing and maintaining a strong donor acknowledgement program and donor tracking using the donor management database system
    • Planning and hosting an annual large-scale fundraising event
    • Grant writing and reporting
    • Staffing strategy for development office (no additional staff exist yet)

    Financial

    • Develop and manage the annual development budget to meet the fundraising target set by the board. All events that are included in the Development Budget will have a corresponding line in the Forecasted Revenue. Monthly summaries are prepared including agreed upon metrics, discussions of milestones achieved, any concerns and any mitigating actions that are underway or being considered to ensure annually agreed Goals and Objectives are reached.
    • Develop and manage the Forecasted Revenue. The Forecasted Revenue will show a line item for all projected donations and grants over $1000 and the anticipated month of receipt. Monthly summaries are prepared discussing the achievements, concerns and mitigating actions as required.

    Fundraising

    • Develop, optimize and manage a strategy to meet the 3 years forecast for revenue from donations and grants. Areas that have historically been part of our fundraising plan are:
    • The annual fundraising campaign that includes both direct mail and digital outreach
    • Optimizing awareness through various social media outlets
    • Creation of special campaign appeals
    • A Major Gifts Program building on the donor base from the capital campaign and the annual donors. Identifying, qualifying, soliciting, closing and stewarding major gifts with a focus on high net-worth individuals
    • Creating strategic requests and reports for donors by working with stakeholders to integrate the overall department goals and plans.
    • Growing the Grants Program through the identification of new prospects, cultivation of present grantors, and submitting well-written grant requests and reports.
    • Collaborate with the department managers, directors, communications director, and chief operating officer to establish and represent goals for outright and planned giving

    Professional Skills:

    • A Bachelor’s Degree and 5-7 years direct experience in leadership roles in Development.

    Golf Course / Grounds Mechanic. WCPD is accepting applications for a Full-time Golf Course / Grounds Mechanic. This position requires the applicant to have a background in golf course mechanical skills for golf course fixtures and equipment. This person will take on an active role in performing various grounds maintenance tasks for the park venues, operating a variety of park equipment and performing small engine and equipment repair duties on demand.

    Assists in modifying vehicles and equipment as directed (e.g., affixes snowplows and welding, plumbing, electrical etc.); replaces and sharpens blades on mowers, bushhogs and cleans and maintains garage.

    General Information:

    The Warren County, Ohio, Park District (WCPD) is seeking a forward-thinking,
    strategic leader to serve in the newly-created position of Chief Executive Officer
    (CEO). The CEO must be a proven, collaborative team-builder, able to combine vision,
    problem-solving and innovation in the oversight of the growing WCPD.
    Under the direction of the WCPD’s three-member Board of Commissioners (Park
    Board), and with assistance and support of the WCPD’s Chief Operations Officer and
    Chief Financial Officer, the CEO will oversee a budget of approximately $2 million and
    manage, supervise, and direct a team of 9 full-time and 50 part-time/seasonal
    employees.

    WCPD Background:

    The WCPD is a political subdivision of the State of Ohio created in 1970 under Ohio
    Revised Code Chapter 1545. Governed by a three-member Board of Commissioners,
    the WCPD is responsible for the maintenance and operation of all county (but not
    municipal or township) parks located within Warren County, Ohio.
    The WCPD serves Warren County’s 246,000 residents through over 1,700 acres of
    parkland, consisting of 15 active parks and 4 passive park properties. Park offerings
    include a splash pad, skate park, challenge course, 18-hole golf course, outdoor
    amphitheater, fishing and boating lakes, softball complex, tennis and basketball
    courts, outdoor sports fields, group shelters, and trail system.

    CEO Core Competencies:

    The CEO will:

    • Oversee the WCPD’s strategic vision
    • Create short- and long-term, strategic plans

    • Preference will be given to individuals with 10 years’ experience in an upper-level management position, preferably in parks and recreation, municipal government or not-for-profit
    • Preference will also be given to individuals with Certified Park and Recreation Professional (CPRP) or Certified Park and Recreation Executive (CPRE) certifications

    Salary and Benefits:

    Base salary of at least $90,000, with actual salary to-be-negotiated commensurate

The Green Team program employs youth 14-18 years old to complete community-based environmental initiatives while training the youth in soft skills, environmental science, outdoor recreation, and environmental careers. The primary role of the Youth Leader is to lead and coordinate day-to-day operations of the Green Team.

    Requirements:

    • Highly motivated, positive attitude, and strong work ethic
    • Ability to set and execute work goals in an unstructured environment 
    • Flexible and positive attitude with the ability to work in a variety of settings
    • Ability to work outside in all season or in an office setting periodically
    • Active Driver’s License

    Desired Abilities/Skills:

    • Natural Resource Management/Restoration experience: trail building, invasive species management, tree planting, naturalist skills, construction skills.
    • Drivers License
    • Community development/engagement work or shared life experience with youth employees

    Benefits/Schedule:

    • Program runs: Monday – Friday, 2pm - 6pm
    • 14 - 18 hrs/week in the afternoon and evenings
    • Occasional work on weekends or special events
    • $17.00/hr
    • Networking with local and national entities focused on Environmental and Social Justice

    Responsibilities:

    • Jobsite readiness of the Green Team.
    • Ensuring the team has all tools and equipment for the project establishing and enforcing both jobsite safety protocols.
    • Ensuring that Green Team employees are equipped with and properly using all necessary PPE to work safely.
    • Training Green Team youth jobsite safety protocols, soft skills, and how to use hand tools.
    • Teaching youth how the work they are doing contributes to a healthier community and ecosystem.
    • Work with the Program Manager to schedule and supervise all projects.
    • Supervising the jobsite and monitoring project progress.
    • Ensuring that youth are completing timesheets, organizing timesheets, and submitting youth hours biweekly.

    Mill Creek Alliance (MCA) is a nonprofit with a long history of restoration and education in the Mill Creek Watershed in Southwest Ohio. We champion the Mill Creek resurgence through restoration, education, and recreation programs.

    Position Summary:

    Be part of a challenging and exciting program that engages the community in the MCA Water Quality Monitoring (WQM) Program. The Lab Leader works on the second Saturday & Sunday of every month March through November at the Butler County Upper Mill Creek Water Reclamation Center helping to run the volunteer citizen monitoring program.

    Work Locations:

    1223 Jefferson Ave, Cincinnati, Ohio 45215 (Office) & 6055 Centre Park Dr, West Chester Township, Ohio 45069 (Lab)

    Specific Duties Include:

    • Attend training to learn both the laboratory procedures and sampling procedures
    • Conduct water quality tests using spectrophotometers, electrodes, and other high-end lab and field equipment
    • Assist setting up and running the lab; work as a lab analyst/lab leader in the MCA WQM Lab
    • Assure adherence to Quality Assurance Project Plans (QAPPs), Quality Assurance Quality Control measures (QA/QC) & Standard Operating Procedures (SOPS); Apply regressions to adjust data based on standards
    • Train participants in use of Collector App/Field Maps, I-Naturalist App, and field equipment
    • Help with MCA Sample Teams collect water samples on the morning of MCA WQM Event
    • Enter data in online platforms such as ArcGIS, StreamBank, and EBIZ
    • Other duties may include assistance with MCA Restoration, Education, Outreach, Recreation Programs & Events

    Scope & Responsibilities:

    The Lab Leader works on the 2nd weekend of the month, March through November, 6-10 hours (Friday 2 hr setup, Saturday 6 hr event, and Sunday 2 hr data collection). On other weeks the Lab leader may work 4-8 hrs (flexible hours, office or remote). Our business hours are M-F 8:30-4:30 with occasional evening and weekend activities.

    UC students who accept a Service-Learning Co-op position are required to take COOP 1000. Training Provided Interns will have the opportunity to receive Ohio EPA Qualified Data Collector (QDC) Level 2 Chemistry training. Successful completion of this course can be used to obtain QDC Status in Ohio EPA’s Credible Data Program.

    Qualifications of Ideal Candidate We are seeking candidates who are eager to become the next generation of environmental stewards. Qualified candidates are learners who are eager to get involved and be a part of the solution. The ideal candidate for this position has a background in chemistry, biology, GIS/ mapping, Environmental Education, and/or Data Management.

    Compensation:

    $12.50/hr.
