About this position:
The Principal Investigator Physical Scientist/Chemist position will be in the EPA’s Office of Research and Development, Center for Environmental Solutions and Emergency Response which provides research-based solutions and technical support to assist customers with regulatory, policy and guidance decisions and to help customers solve environmental problems in the built environment. Research and support include safeguarding public water systems; remediating contaminated soil, sediments, urban areas, and groundwater; providing emergency responders with tools to decontaminate built infrastructure and the natural environment; and advancing approaches and guidance for sustainable materials management.
The Principal Investigator Physical Scientist/Chemist will conduct research associated with development and implementation of analytical methodologies for emerging contaminants, including PFAS, in water matrices. The selected candidate will have experience using liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry instrumentation for analysis of environmental contaminants in water matrices. The selected candidate will also be familiar with development and implementation of QA/QC protocols associated with analytical methods for measurement of environmental contaminants in water and be capable of independently performing analysis of PFAS in water matrices using a variety of techniques to include total organic fluorine (TOF), total oxidizable precursor (TOP), non-targeted analysis (NTA) and targeted analysis using LC/MS/MS. The selected candidate will also be familiar with laboratory information management systems or other data management systems and capable of managing large amounts of data generated externally from multiple sources/studies. The position requires appropriate technical, oral, and written communication skills to interact effectively with internal partners and external stakeholders.
The salary range for this position at EPA is between $68,915 - $107,385.
This position requires US citizenship with limited exceptions.
